- Malgven o Malgwen(n) es un personaje introducido por Édouard Schuré en la leyenda de la ciudad de Ys a finales del siglo XIX, tal vez a partir de una leyenda local del Cabo Sizun. Fue Charles Guyot quien la hizo famosa a principios del siglo XX, en su versión literaria de la leyenda de Ys. Valquiria y reina del «Norte», Malgven reina sobre sus tierras con su envejecido esposo, el rey Harold. Se encuentra con el rey Gradlon, que está realizando una expedición, y se enamora de él. Lo convence para matar a su marido y fugarse con ella, a lomos de su caballo Morvarc'h, a las tierras bretonas de Gradlon. El viaje dura un año, durante el cual da a luz a una hija, Dahut. Malgvent muere después del parto. Aunque tal vez no haya nada de auténtico en la leyenda de la ciudad de Ys, Malgven restituye a su hija Dahut un origen feérico, y participa en el aspecto dramático y romántico de esta leyenda. Elle est rendue célèbre par Charles Guyot au début du XXe siècle, dans sa version littéraire de la légende d'Ys. Valkyrie et reine du « Nord », Malgven règne sur ses terres avec son époux vieillissant, le roi Harold. Elle rencontre le roi Gradlon parti en expédition et en tombe amoureuse. Elle le persuade de tuer son mari et de s'enfuir avec elle sur son cheval Morvarc'h, jusqu'aux terres bretonnes de Gradlon. Le voyage dure un an, durant lequel elle donne naissance à une fille, Dahut. Malgven meurt après l'accouchement. Bien qu'elle n'ait peut-être rien d'authentique dans la légende de la ville d'Ys, Malgven restitue à sa fille Dahut une origine féerique et participe à l'aspect dramatique et romantique de cette légende. - Malgven, or Malgwen(n), is a character introduced into the legend of the city of Ys, a mythical city on the coast of Brittany, at the end of the 19th century by Édouard Schuré, and is possibly based on a local legend from the Cap Sizun. She was made known by Charles Guyot (Géo-Charles) at the beginning of the 20th century, in his literary adaptation of the legend of Ys. As a valkyrie and queen of the "North", Malgven reigns over the land with her ageing husband, King Harold. She meets King Gradlon while he is raiding and falls in love with him. She persuades him to kill her husband and to flee with her on her horse Morvarc'h, towards Gradlon's lands in Brittany. The journey lasts a year, during which time she gives birth to a daughter, Dahut. Malgven dies in childbirth. Although she may not be an authentic part of the legend of the city of Ys, Malgven provides a magical origin story for her daughter Dahut and contributes to the dramatic and romantic aspect of the legend. New representations of this character have appeared in a number of more recent productions, notably novels, a play and a graphic novel. (en)
