- Lynne Irene Stewart, née le 8 octobre 1939 à Brooklyn (New York, État de New York) et morte le 7 mars 2017 dans la même ville, est une avocate et militante politique américaine. Lynne Stewart est une ancienne avocate qui a défendu des personnalités très controversées. Elle a elle-même été inculpée pour complot, pour avoir fourni des informations à des terroristes en 2005, ce qui lui a valu une peine de 28 mois d'emprisonnement. Son inculpation pour délit lui a fait perdre son droit d'exercer au barreau. Elle a été inculpée pour avoir transmis des informations entre son client Cheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, un religieux égyptien accusé d'avoir planifié des attaques terroristes, et les membres de son réseau Gamaa al-Islamiya, un réseau reconnu comme terroriste par la défense américaine. Elle fut re-condamnée le 15 juillet 2010 à 10 ans d'emprisonnement pour les informations inexactes qu'elle a livrées lors de son premier procès, et pour le manque de remords dont elle fit preuve après sa première condamnation. Elle a été incarcérée au pénitencier FMC Carswell à Fort Worth au Texas. (fr)

She herself was convicted on charges of conspiracy and providing material support to terrorists in 2005, and sentenced to 28 months in prison. Her felony conviction led to her being automatically disbarred. She was convicted of helping pass messages from her client Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman, an Egyptian cleric convicted of planning terror attacks, to his followers in al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya, an organization designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization by the United States Secretary of State. She was re-sentenced on July 15, 2010, to 10 years in prison in light of her perjury at trial. She served her sentence at the Federal Medical Center, Carswell, a federal prison in Fort Worth, Texas. Stewart was released from prison on December 31, 2013, on a compassionate release order because of her terminal breast cancer diagnosis. (en)
