- Die London and North Western Railway (LNWR) war eine britische Eisenbahngesellschaft, die von 1846 bis 1922 existierte. Sie entstand aus der Fusion der drei Gesellschaften Grand Junction Railway, London and Birmingham Railway und Manchester and Birmingham Railway und übernahm auch die Lancaster and Carlisle Railway. Die Länge des Streckennetzes betrug im letzten Betriebsjahr 4293 km. Sie nannte sich auch Premier Line (erste Linie), auch wenn zahlreiche andere Gesellschaften diesen Titel für sich in Anspruch nahmen. Die Bezeichnung geht auf die Liverpool and Manchester Railway zurück, der weltweit ersten Bahngesellschaft mit Personenverkehr, die später in der Grand Junction Railway aufging. Als größte Aktiengesellschaft in Großbritannien war die LNWR profitabler als jede andere Bahngesellschaft des Landes. Sie erschloss entlang der Hauptstrecke West Coast Main Line einige der größten Städte: Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester sowie durch Kooperation mit der Caledonian Railway auch Edinburgh und Glasgow. Das Streckennetz reichte auch nach Wales hinein und führte unter anderem nach Holyhead, Swansea und Newport. Am 1. Januar 1922 erfolgte die Fusion mit der Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway. Mit dem Inkrafttreten des Railways Act 1921 wurde die LNWR am 1. Januar 1923 Teil der London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS).
