- It Came from the Desert is a 1989 action-adventure game by Cinemaware. It was originally released for the Amiga, but later ported to MS-DOS, as well as released in distinctly different forms to consoles. The TurboGrafx-16 release is distinctly different from the computer versions, in terms of gameplay and presentation. An expansion set Antheads: It Came from the Desert II was released in 1990. The game is inspired by dozens of 1950s monster movies especially the 1954 mutant-ant classic Them!, with the title referencing the 1953 horror film, It Came from Outer Space. The game is a non-linear combination of dialogue boxes and several types of action scenes, typical of contemporary Cinemaware releases. (en)

Le jeu original a été adapté sur PC en 1991 et a connu une nouvelle incarnation sur PC Engine CD en 1992. Il existe également un prototype sur Mega Drive qui prend la forme d'un jeu d'action. Le jeu a été conçu par David Riordan. Il s'inspire des séries B fantastiques des années 1950, dans la veine Des monstres attaquent la ville. Le joueur incarne le géologue Greg Bradley, installé depuis peu dans la bourgade de Lizard Breath, au cœur d'un désert californien, qui va découvrir qu'une colonie de fourmis géantes menace d'envahir la ville. Il a quinze jours pour prouver l'existence des créatures, coordonner les opérations visant à empêcher l'invasion et détruire la reine des fourmis. (fr)

Come molti altri titoli Cinemaware It Came from the Desert ha uno stile hollywoodiano, con utilizzo di intermezzi animati e una grafica di alto livello, caratteristiche non comuni all'epoca. Il videogioco è ispirato a molti film di serie B degli anni cinquanta che sfruttano l'idea delle radiazioni e del nucleare per generare mostruose creature mutanti.
