It stars James Ellison, Frances Dee, and Tom Conway, and follows a Canadian nurse who travels to care for the ailing wife of a sugar plantation owner in the Caribbean, where she witnesses Vodou rituals and possibly encounters the walking dead. The screenplay, written by Curt Siodmak and Ardel Wray, is based on an article of the same title by Inez Wallace, and also partly reinterprets the narrative of the 1847 novel Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë. The film premiered in New York City on April 21, 1943, before receiving a wider theatrical release later that month. It has been analyzed for its themes of slavery and racism, and for its depiction of beliefs associated with African diaspora religions, particularly Haitian Vodou. - Ho camminato con uno zombi (I Walked with a Zombie) è un film horror uscito il 17 marzo del 1943 e diretto da Jacques Tourneur. È il secondo noir horror fantascientifico del produttore Val Lewton per la RKO Pictures (il primo fu Il bacio della pantera che riscosse molto successo). Il montaggio del film fu realizzato dal futuro regista Mark Robson, che più tardi dirigerà il suo primo film per il produttore Lewton. Come accadde per molti film horror di Lewton, con l'aiuto di alcuni sceneggiatori di fiducia venne prima deciso il titolo del film, e successivamente si costruì la trama del film attorno ad esso. Ho camminato con uno zombi riscosse molto successo ai botteghini all'epoca e fu uno dei primi film che affrontarono una tematica horror, genere che poi diventerà cult con George Romero negli anni '60, fino ai vari remake degli anni 2000. È stato acclamato per la sua atmosfera accattivante e le sue perfette interpretazioni. Gli zombi rappresentati nel film sono ispirati dal folklore haitiano, e dunque distanti dal moderno concetto di morto vivente introdotto dalla rivisitazione occidentale del mito. Il film non era stato distribuito in Italia quando uscì negli USA e rimase un inedito finché fu doppiato in italiano per un passaggio televisivo nel 1984 dalla Sinc Cinematografica di Mimmo Palmata.
