- SS Vaderland byl parník s hrubou prostorností 11 899 BRT, postavený v loděnicích pro společnost . Jeho pohon zajišťovaly dva kondenzační pístové parní stroje se čtyřnásobnou expanzí páry, každý stroj poháněl jednu lodní vrtuli. Loď byla spuštěna na vodu 12. července 1900 a 8. prosince téhož roku vyplul na svou první plavbu Antverpy – Southampton – New York. V roce 1914 byl prodán White Star Line, poté International Navigation Co. a přejmenován na Southland. Od roku 1915 sloužil v 1. světové válce jako transportní loď. 2. září 1915 byl v Egejském moři torpédován, ale nepotopil se, proto mohl být opraven. 4. června 1917 byl opět torpédován poblíž Irska. - Le Vaderland est un paquebot transatlantique mis en service en 1900 pour le compte de l'International Navigation Company, regroupant l'American Line et la Red Star Line. Sister-ship du Zeeland, également très similaire au Kroonland et au . Lors de sa mise en service, il est tout d'abord utilisé durant un an par l'American Line. Il prend ensuite le pavillon belge et est exploité par la Red Star durant les treize années qui suivent, entre Anvers et New York. Au début de la Première Guerre mondiale, la Belgique étant occupée, le Vaderland est transféré à la White Star Line, qui l'utilise sur son service à destination du Canada. Au printemps 1915, son nom à consonance germanique est changé en Southland, et le navire est utilisé comme transport de troupes à destination des Dardanelles. Dans ces fonctions, il échappe de peu à un torpillage. Reprenant ensuite un service civil dès 1916, il est chargé, lors de l'entrée en guerre des États-Unis, de ramener en Europe des troupes américaines. Durant une de ces traversées, le 4 juin 1917, il est torpillé par le sous-marin allemand et coule en faisant quatre victimes. (fr)
- SS Vaderland was an ocean liner launched in July 1900 for the Red Star Line service between Antwerp and New York. During her passenger career, the ship initially sailed under British registry, but was re-registered in Antwerp in 1903. Vaderland was a sister ship to Zeeland and a near sister ship to Kroonland and Finland. After the beginning of the First World War, Vaderland was re-registered in Liverpool and converted to a troopship, ferrying troops of the Canadian Expeditionary Force from Halifax to Liverpool. While under the operation of White Star–Dominion in 1915, she was renamed Southland to avoid the German-sounding Vaderland. In September 1915, Southland was torpedoed in the Aegean Sea by German submarine UB-14 with the loss of 40 men. The ship was beached, repaired, and returned to service in August 1916. While in service between the United Kingdom and Canada on 4 June 1917, Southland was torpedoed a second time, this time by U-70; she was sunk off the coast of Ireland with the loss of four lives.
