- In the post-production process of film editing and video editing, a dissolve (sometimes called a lap dissolve) is a type of film transition in which one sequence fades over another. The terms fade-out (also called fade to black) and fade-in are used to describe a transition to and from a blank image. This is in contrast to a cut, where there is no such transition. A dissolve overlaps two shots for the duration of the effect, usually at the end of one scene and the beginning of the next, but may be used in montage sequences also. Generally, but not always, the use of a dissolve is held to indicate that a period of time has passed between the two scenes. Also, it may indicate a change of location or the start of a flashback. - La dissolvenza (in inglese fade, in francese fondu) è un espediente tecnico cinematografico. Esso consiste nella graduale scomparsa dell'immagine, sostituita altrettanto gradualmente da un'altra, e rientra nella categoria delle cosiddette transizioni, ovvero le modalità di passaggio da un'immagine all'altra. Le conformazioni abituali di dissolvenza sono tre:
* dissolvenza a nero: l'immagine scompare in modo graduale e al suo posto compare un fondo nero; è detta anche dissolvenza a chiudere (fade-out in inglese)
* dissolvenza da nero: al contrario della precedente, si passa gradualmente da un campo completamente nero alle immagini; è detta anche dissolvenza ad aprire (fade-in in inglese) o, con una terminologia non tecnica, assolvenza;
* dissolvenza incrociata: da un'immagine abbiamo il graduale passaggio ad un'altra, ovvero la prima inquadratura si affievolisce lasciando emergere la seconda, fino a scomparire del tutto (in inglese semplicemente fade, o cross fade, o dissolvence, abbreviato in diss). Esempi: Dissolvenza a nero: l'immagine A si diffonde nel nero Dissolvenza da nero: dal nero affiora l'immagine A Dissolvenza incrociata: l'immagine A svanisce e contemporaneamente affiora l'immagine B Naturalmente le dissolvenze a chiudere e ad aprire non debbono essere obbligatoriamente "a nero" ma si possono utilizzare anche altri colori: nonostante il nero sia il colore più utilizzato, l'alternativa più frequente è forse il bianco. - Een overvloeier of crossfade is in de film- en videotechniek een geleidelijke overgang van het ene beeld in het andere. Deze beeldovergang is met andere woorden een combinatie van een fade-in en een fade-out. De betekenis is meestal die van een bepaalde tijdsspanne die voorbijgaat. Technisch verkrijgt men een overvloeier door aan het einde van de eerste scène het diafragma geleidelijk aan te sluiten. Dan spoelt men de film een klein beetje terug. Aan het begin van de volgende scène opent men dan opnieuw traag het diafragma. Zo vloeien het einde van de eerste scène en het begin van de tweede scène stilaan in elkaar over. Montage van digitale film met overvloei-effect verkrijgt men door deze in de tijdlijn aan te brengen. Zo is er in Final Cut Pro en Adobe Premiere een apart menu waarin men diverse overvloei-effecten kan bewerkstelligen. Vanzelfsprekend is het aantal effecten hierbij veel groter dan bij analoge film.
