- Die Diastematomyelie (griechisch-lateinisch und englisch Diastematomyelia) ist eine seltene angeborene Fehlbildung des Spinalkanales, bei welcher Teile des Rückenmarkes in Längsrichtung geteilt sind. Sie gehört zu den Dysraphien. Der Begriff leitet sich von altgriechisch μῦελόν = (Rücken)Mark und διάστημα diástēma „Zwischenraum“ ab. Ein knöcherner, knorpeliger oder bindegewebiger Sporn oder ein Septum (Scheidewand) quert den Spinalkanal über eine Länge von einem oder mehreren Wirbelkörpern und teilt damit das Rückenmark in zwei Stränge. Diese Fehlbildung wurde erstmals im Jahre 1837 durch C. P. Oliver beschrieben. (de)
- Diastematomyelia (occasionally diastomyelia) is a congenital disorder in which a part of the spinal cord is split, usually at the level of the upper lumbar vertebra in the longitudinal (sagittal) direction. Females are affected much more commonly than males. This condition occurs in the presence of an osseous, cartilaginous or fibrous septum in the central portion of the spinal canal which then produces a complete or incomplete sagittal division of the spinal cord into two hemicords. When the split does not reunite distally to the spur, the condition is referred to as diplomyelia, which is true duplication of the spinal cord. (en)

Un septum osseux ou cartilagineux est volontiers associé à la division médullaire (en son absence on parle de diplomyélie). Ce septum siège habituellement à la face postérieure du corps vertébral et rarement à la face ventrale de l'arc postérieur. Dans la moitié des cas, l'âge de découverte se situe avant 5 ans. Parmi les manifestations cliniques, on retrouve:
* une hypertrichose,
* troubles neurologiques variables,
* atteintes orthopédiques (malformations, scoliose, cyphose lombosacrée, etc.).

Połowy rdzenia znajdują się w pojedynczym lub w oddzielnych workach opony twardej. Podział zwykle jest dokonany na odcinku lędźwiowym, rzadziej na odcinku piersiowym rdzenia. Między połowami podzielonego rdzenia znajduje się przegroda kostna lub łącznotkankowa. Wada może być bezobjawowa, niekiedy obecne są jednak objawy ogniskowe.
