- The 8th Guards Order of Lenin Combined Arms Army (abbreviated 8th CAA) is an army of the Russian Ground Forces, headquartered in Novocherkassk, Rostov Oblast, within Russia′s Southern Military District, that was reinstated in 2017 as a successor to the 8th Guards Army of the Soviet Union's Red Army (later Soviet Army), which was formed during World War II and was disbanded in 1998 after being downsized into a corps. The Soviet 8th Guards Army was formed from the 62nd Army in May 1943 and received Guards status in recognition of its actions in the Battle of Stalingrad. It went on to defend the right bank of the Donets and fight in the Donbass Strategic Offensive in August and September. It then fought in the Lower Dnepr Offensive, where it captured Zaporizhia. During winter and spring 1944 the army fought in the Dnieper–Carpathian Offensive. After the capture of Odessa, the army was transferred to the Kovel area and fought in the Lublin–Brest Offensive during the summer, capturing Lublin, crossing the Vistula and seizing the Magnuszew bridgehead. The army defended the bridgehead until January 1945, when it helped launch the Vistula–Oder Offensive. The army helped capture Łódź, Poznań and Kostrzyn nad Odrą. The army then fought in the Battle of Berlin. During the war it was led by its commander during the Battle of Stalingrad, Vasily Chuikov. After the war the army was stationed at Nohra, covering the strategic Fulda Gap during the Cold War. In 1993 the army was withdrawn from Germany to Volgograd (the former Stalingrad) and there downsized to a corps, before being disbanded in 1998. (en)

Westgruppe der Truppen (GSSD/WGT) und wurde bis Oktober 1992 nach Russland abgezogen und dann aufgelöst. Das Hauptquartier der Armee befand sich in Nohra. Der Großverband wurde seit seiner Aufstellung im Zweiten Weltkrieg mehrmals umbenannt. Die Bezeichnung zum Zeitpunkt der Auflösung lautete 8. Gardearmee (russisch 8-ja gwardeiskaja ordena Lenina armija) Der Großverband trug seit seiner Aufstellung folgende Bezeichnungen:

- La 8e armée de la Garde est une grande unité soviétique créée en 1943 en renommant la 62e armée, pour honorer cette dernière après sa participation à la bataille de Stalingrad. La 8e de la Garde participe ensuite à la reconquête du Donbass puis la bataille du Dniepr en 1943, aux offensives Dniepr-Carpates puis Lublin-Brest en 1944, enfin à l'offensive Vistule-Oder et à la prise de Berlin en 1945. Devenue une des unités de l'Armée soviétique, elle passe toute la guerre froide dans le Sud-Ouest de la République démocratique allemande, au sein du groupement des forces armées soviétiques en Allemagne. Rapatriée en Russie en 1991, elle est dissoute en 1992. L'unité est rétablie en 2017 avec le nom de 8e armée combinée de la Garde et de l'ordre de Lénine (en russe 8-я гвардейская общевойсковая ордена Ленина армия ; en abrégé 8 гв. - La 8ª Armata delle guardie (in russo: 8-я гвардейская армия?), fu una formazione dell'Armata Rossa costituita in origine con il nome di 62ª Armata che assunse la sua nuova denominazione il 16 aprile 1943 in riconoscimento dell'eccezionale valore dimostrato durante la vittoriosa difesa della città di Stalingrado nella fase più importante della seconda guerra mondiale sul Fronte orientale. L'8ª Armata delle guardie, al comando del generale Vasilij Ivanovič Čujkov, rimase in combattimento fino alla fine della guerra, distinguendosi nella liberazione di Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporož'e e Odessa, e soprattutto nell'avanzata in Polonia e in Germania. L'8ª Armata delle guardie prese parte allo scontro finale di Berlino, combattendo una nuova battaglia urbana, giungendo a poche centinaia di metri dalla Cancelleria e dal bunker di Adolf Hitler e ricevendo la resa finale della guarnigione tedesca. Dopo la vittoria, l'8ª Armata delle guardie rimase schierata in Germania orientale nel settore critico della stretta di Fulda, come elemento di punta del Gruppo di forze sovietiche in Germania, le unità dell'Armata Rossa in massima prontezza operativa in caso di conflitto con la NATO; dopo la fine della Guerra Fredda e la dissoluzione dell'Unione Sovietica, l'armata venne ritirata in Russia e quindi ufficialmente disciolta nel 1992. L'8ª Armata delle guardie è stata ufficialmente ricostituita nel 2017 con posto di comando a Novočerkassk, nella Russia meridionale, nel quadro del programma di graduale potenziamento dell'esercito della Federazione russa.
