L'événement s'est déroulé le 5 avril 2009 au Reliant Stadium à Houston, dans l'état du Texas. Il s'agit de la vingt-cinquième édition de WrestleMania, qui fait partie avec le Royal Rumble, SummerSlam et les Survivor Series du « Big Four » à savoir « les Quatre Grands ». Il s'agit de la plus grande représentation annuelle de divertissement sportif. C'est la seconde fois que WrestleMania a lieu à Houston, après WrestleMania X-Seven qui avait eu lieu au Reliant Astrodome en 2001. Huit matchs, dont trois mettant en jeu les titres de la fédération, ont été programmés. Chacun d'entre eux est déterminé par des storylines rédigées par les scénaristes de la WWE ; soit par des rivalités survenues avant le pay-per-view, soit par des matchs de qualification en cas de rencontre pour un championnat. L'événement a mis en vedette les catcheurs des divisions Raw et SmackDown, créées en 2002 lors de la séparation du personnel de la WWE en deux promotions distinctes, ainsi que la division ECW créée en 2006. Le match principal (main event) est un match simple pour le championnat de la WWE opposant le champion Triple H au vainqueur du Royal Rumble, Randy Orton. Le match est remporté par Triple H qui conserve son titre. Enfin, les deux anciens Hardy Boyz, Jeff et Matt, s'affrontent dans un Type de match au catch#Extreme Rules match remporté par Matt. Les tickets pour l'événement ont commencé à être vendu le 8 novembre 2008. Pour la troisième année consécutive, WrestleMania a battu le record du plus gros succès économique des pay-per-view avec 6,9 millions de $ de recette. WrestleMania XXV a fait un chiffre d'affaires de 21 millions de $. It was held for wrestlers from the promotion's Raw, SmackDown, and ECW brand divisions. The event took place on April 5, 2009, at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas. It was the second WrestleMania held in Houston; the first was WrestleMania X-Seven at the Reliant Astrodome, which was held in April 2001. It was also the last WrestleMania to feature the ECW brand. Eight matches were held on the event's card, which featured a supercard, a scheduling of more than one main bout. The final match of the night, which was the main match of the Raw brand, was a singles match which Triple H defeat Randy Orton to retain the WWE Championship. The main match of the SmackDown brand was a Triple Threat match for the World Heavyweight Championship, which saw John Cena defeat defending champion Edge and Big Show to win the championship. WrestleMania 25 generated approximately 960,000 pay-per-view buys, grossing $21.0 million in revenue. The event pumped an estimated $49.8 million into the local economy and generated $5.7 million in local tax revenue, equating to 600 full-time jobs for the area.
