- Theodor Ghițescu (* 24. Januar 1934 in Bukarest; † 22. November 2008 in Bukarest) war ein rumänischer Schachspieler. Die rumänische Einzelmeisterschaft konnte er einmal gewinnen: 1963 in Bukarest. Er spielte für Rumänien bei zwölf Schacholympiaden: 1956, 1960 bis 1974, 1978 bis 1980 und 1984. Außerdem nahm er dreimal an den europäischen Mannschaftsmeisterschaften (1965, 1973 und 1977) teil und an der Schach-Mannschaftsweltmeisterschaft 1985 in Luzern. Im Jahre 1961 wurde ihm der Titel Internationaler Meister (IM) verliehen, 1986 der Titel Ehrengroßmeister (HGM). Von Beruf war er Bauingenieur. (de)

Champion de Roumanie en 1963, il a représenté la Roumanie lors de douze olympiades de 1956 à 1984 et a obtenu le titre de grand maître international honoraire en 1986. Theodor Ghițescu a remporté le tournoi de Wijk aan Zee B en 1966 et 1973, ainsi que le tournoi international de Bucarest en 1976 avec 10 points sur 15, devant Jozsef Pinter et Evgueni Svechnikov. Il finit deuxième du tournoi international de Reykjavik en 1970, devant Padevsky, Hecht, Matulovic et Olafsson et deuxième du tournoi de Bucarest en 1979, ex æquo avec Victor Ciocâltea et devant Wolfgang Uhlmann (tournoi remporté par Taïmanov). Lors de l'olympiade d'échecs de 1960, il jouait au premier échiquier de la Roumanie et battit Max Euwe. Il obtint le titre de maître international en 1962. (fr)

He was awarded the International Master title in 1962, and in 1986 he was awarded an honorary Grandmaster title. His tournament successes include wins at the Wijk aan Zee B tournament in 1966 and 1973, and at the Bucharest International tournament of 1976 (ahead of Jozsef Pinter and Evgeny Sveshnikov). He competed in several Romanian championships, winning the event in 1963, finishing second in 1961, 1972, 1975 and 1977 and finishing third in 1959 and 1971. His peak FIDE rating was 2460 in the July 1971 list. (en)
