Debido a las reacciones por los críticos y aficionados, Fleming no quedó contento con el libro y trató de suprimir elementos del mismo donde pudo: bloqueó una edición en rústica en el Reino Unido y solo dio permiso para el uso del título, no de ningún elemento del argumento, cuando vendió los derechos cinematográficos a Harry Saltzman y Albert R. Broccoli. Sin embargo, el personaje Jaws de la versión cinematográfica se basa libremente en uno de los personajes del libro y una edición en rústica fue publicada después de su muerte en el Reino Unido. Una versión fuertemente adaptada de El espía que me amó apareció en el periódico Daily Express en formato de tira cómica diaria durante 1967–1968. En 1977 el título fue utilizado para la décima película de la serie de Eon Productions. Il est publié le 1er avril 1962 au Royaume-Uni et la traduction française parait en 1966. Le roman a pour particularité d'être un récit à la première personne d'une jeune femme ayant croisé James Bond, ce dernier n'apparaissant que dans le dernier tiers du roman. Fleming présente même la narratrice comme co-auteur de l'histoire dans un prologue supprimé des rééditions. Vivienne Michel travaille depuis deux semaines dans un motel isolé du Nord-Est des États-Unis. Seule après le départ des gérants, elle se remémore les évènements l'ayant menée jusqu'ici lorsque deux hommes travaillant pour le propriétaire se présentent. Leur comportement se fait de plus en plus menaçant à tel point que la jeune canadienne pense sa dernière heure arrivée. C'est alors que l'agent secret britannique James Bond fait son entrée. Le roman est mal reçu par la critique et le public à cause du changement de forme et de ton. À la demande de Fleming lui-même, seul le titre sera utilisé en 1977 pour L'Espion qui m'aimait, 10e opus de la série de films de James Bond d'EON Productions, avec Roger Moore dans le rôle de 007. It is the shortest and most sexually explicit of Fleming's novels, as well as a clear departure from previous Bond novels in that the story is told in the first person by a young Canadian woman, Vivienne Michel. Bond himself does not appear until two-thirds of the way through the book. Fleming wrote a prologue to the novel giving Michel credit as a co-author. Due to the reactions by critics and fans, Fleming was not happy with the book and attempted to suppress elements of it where he could: he blocked a paperback edition in the United Kingdom and only gave permission for the title to be used when he sold the film rights to Harry Saltzman and Albert R. Broccoli, rather than any aspects of the plot. However, the character of Jaws is loosely based on one of the characters in the book and a British paperback edition was published after his death. A heavily adapted version of The Spy Who Loved Me appeared in the Daily Express newspaper in daily comic strip format in 1967–1968. In 1977 the title was used for the tenth film in the Eon Productions series. It was the third to star Roger Moore as Bond and used no plot elements from the novel. (en)

- Szpieg, który mnie kochał – powieść Iana Fleminga o przygodach agenta 007 – Jamesa Bonda. Została napisana w 1962 roku i jest dziewiątą z kolei powieścią w cyklu o Bondzie. Powieść różni się bardzo od pozostałych w sposobie napisania. Jest to jedyna powieść o Bondzie, w której mamy do czynienia z narracją pierwszoosobową. To też jedyna powieść, gdzie głównym bohaterem jest nie James Bond, ale młoda dziewczyna. Cała powieść to jej pamiętnik podzielony na trzy części – pierwsza opisuje jej przygody z dwoma mężczyznami, który potraktowali ją bardzo źle, druga opisuje pracę w motelu Pod Sennymi Sosnami i spotkanie z groźnymi bandytami, którzy chcą ją zabić, zaś trzecia opisuje jak do motelu przybywa Bond i ratuje dziewczynę. Agent 007 pojawia się dopiero w trzeciej części, nie jest więc obecny przez cały czas. Powieść ta jest również najkrótszą ze wszystkich powieści o Bondzie. (pl)

É o mais curto e o mais explicito sexualmente de todos os livros de Fleming, e também com uma clara divergência dos demais romances sobre 007: a história é contada na primeira pessoa pela personagem . James Bond não aparece até décimo capítulo e desaparece novamente no início do último capítulo do livro. A fim de manter o conceito da personagem central do livro, (e, como sugerem alguns críticos, distanciar-se de um livro com o qual ele estava insatisfeito) Fleming deu à personagem fictícia, Michel, o crédito de co-autora. Devido às reações dos críticos e dos fãs, Fleming não estava feliz com o livro e, consequentemente, só deu permissão para o título a ser utilizado quando ele vendeu os direitos de filmagem à Harry Saltzman e Albert R. - I found what follows lying on my desk one morning. As you will see, it appears to be the first person story of a young woman, evidently beautiful and not unskilled in the arts of love. According to her story, she appears to have been involved, both perilously and romantically, with the same James Bond whose secret service exploits I myself have written from time to time. With the manuscript was a note signed 'Vivienne Michel' assuring me that what she had written was 'purest truth and from the depths of her heart'.
