- The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA; Scottish Gaelic: Buidheann Dìon Àrainneachd na h-Alba) is Scotland's environmental regulator and national flood forecasting, flood warning and strategic flood risk management authority. Its main role is to protect and improve Scotland's environment. SEPA does this by helping business and industry to understand their environmental responsibilities, enabling customers to comply with legislation and good practice and to realise the economic benefits of good environmental practice. One of the ways SEPA does this is through the NetRegs environmental guidance service. It protects communities by regulating activities that can cause harmful pollution and by monitoring the quality of Scotland's air, land and water. The regulations it implements also cover the storage, transport and disposal of radioactive materials. SEPA is an executive non-departmental public body (Executive NDPB, often known as a Quango) of the Scottish Government. SEPA was established in 1996 by the Environment Act 1995 and is responsible for the protection of the natural environment in Scotland. SEPA is a member of SEARS (Scotland's Environmental and Rural Services). On 24 December 2020 SEPA was subject to a serious and complex cyber-attack that significantly impacted their contact center, internal systems, processes and communications. Hackers stole over 4,000 digital files. SEPA refused to pay the ransom, and on 21 January 2021 learned that the information stolen had been published online illegally; some of the information was already publicly available, while some was not. - La Scottish Environment Protection Agency, connue sous l'acronyme SEPA (en français : Agence écossaise de protection de l'environnement) est une autorité administrative indépendante (non-departmental public body, souvent appelé Quango) chargée d'élaborer et de faire respecter des règles de protection de l'environnement en Écosse. Elle a été créée par l'Environmental Act de 1995. Plus précisément, les missions de la SEPA sont les suivantes :
* évaluer la qualité de l'environnement (air, eau, terre) ;
* accompagner les entreprises dans le respect des règlementations environnementales ;
* faire respecter les règlementations environnementales le cas échéant ;
* gérer les risques et les alertes d'inondations, d'accidents industriels et nucléaires ;
* conseiller le gouvernement écossais, par exemple dans le cadre du plan "0 déchet". La SEPA a des moyens d'actions variés, pouvant dans de nombreux cas prononcer des sanctions ou transmettre les infractions les plus graves au ministère public en vue de poursuites pénales. Buidheann Dìon Àrainneachd na h-Alba) – publiczna instytucja związana z zajmująca się kwestiami środowiskowymi na terenie Szkocji. Główną siedzibę ma w Stirling. Agencję powołano w 1996. Misją agencji jest ochrona środowiska i zdrowia oraz zapewnienie zrównoważonego rozwoju przez nadzór nad użytkowaniem zasobów naturalnych i wykorzystywaniem usług ekosystemowych. Jest ona instytucją odpowiedzialną za opracowywanie planów gospodarowania wodami na obszarze dorzeczy. SEPA prowadzi system ostrzegania przed zagrożeniami środowiskowymi: powodziami, skażeniem promieniotwórczym i innym skażeniem powodowanym przez awarie przemysłowe, współpracując z instytucjami odpowiedzialnymi za zdrowie publiczne. Zajmuje się również kwestią odpadów. Oprócz działalności inspekcyjnej, SEPA prowadzi . Dotyczy to monitoringu jakościowego i ilościowego wód, w tym badającego jakość wody w kąpieliskach, monitoringu jakości powietrza, ale też monitoringu gatunków inwazyjnych, ze specjalnym programem monitoringu inwazji Phytophthora alni, i w ogóle różnorodności biologicznej, stanu lasów i gleb. W 2020 SEPA zatrudniała ok. 1300 pracowników w 22 oddziałach terenowych. Siedziba główna znajduje się w biurowcu Strathallan House w Stirling (FK9 4TZ). Jej dyrektorem wykonawczym w tym okresie jest Terry A'Hearn, a od 2016 przewodniczącym jej zarządu Bob Downes. W okresie przynależności Wielkiej Brytanii do Unii Europejskiej SEPA odpowiadała za zgodność szkockiej polityki środowiskowej z prawem unijnym.
