- Rose of Tralee ist der alljährlich neu vergebene Titel für eine junge Irin, die im darauf folgenden Jahr auf einer Welttournee für die Stadt Tralee, das County Kerry und die Republik Irland wirbt. Sie repräsentiert auch das Zusammengehörigkeitsgefühl irischer Auswanderer. Die Rose of Tralee wird im Rahmen eines in Tralee stattfindenden Festivals ermittelt. Es bewerben sich junge Frauen aus Irland und aus irischen Gemeinden weltweit. Im Unterschied zu reinen Schönheitswettbewerben gibt es bei der Rose of Tralee keinen Auftritt im Bikini. (de)

Déantar na hiomaitheoirí a mheas ar a bpearsantacht seachas ar a n-áilleacht amháin. Bíonn orthu a gcuid buanna a thaispeáint, ar nós canadh, damhsa, agus ag seinm ceol. Is ról ambasadóir bliana í an duais, a léiríonn an fhéile in Éirinn agus ar fud an domhain. Tá an fhéile bunaithe ar an amhrán grá, ar a bhfuil an t-ainm céanna, . - The Rose of Tralee International Festival is an international event which is celebrated among Irish communities all over the world. The festival, held annually in the town of Tralee in County Kerry, takes its inspiration from a 19th-century ballad of the same name about a woman called Mary, who because of her beauty was called "The Rose of Tralee". The words of the song are credited to C. (or E.) Mordaunt Spencer and the music to Charles William Glover, but a story circulated in connection with the festival claims that the song was written by William Pembroke Mulchinock, a wealthy Protestant, out of love for Mary O'Connor, a poor Catholic maid in service to his parents. Elle fut ainsi appelée « la Rose de Tralee ». Aujourd'hui, le festival a pour but d'élire une jeune femme d'origine irlandaise qui sera, une année durant, la représentante de la communauté irlandaise dans le monde.
