- The Romanian Social Democratic Party (Romanian: Partidul Social Democrat Român, PSDR) was a social democratic political party in Romania. Founded in 1990, shortly after the fall of the Communist party rule in Romania in December 1989, it claimed to be the direct successor of the historical Romanian Social Democratic Party (PSD) which existed between 1927 and 1948, until it merged with the Romanian Communist Party (PCR) to create the Romanian Workers' Party (PMR). Joining the Socialist International (SI), the party entered alliances with the Democratic Party (PD; forming Uniunea Social-Democrată or the Social Democratic Union during the 1996 legislative election), and took part in the Romanian Democratic Convention (CDR) governments of Victor Ciorbea, Radu Vasile, and Mugur Isărescu (briefly leading the coalition government with Alexandru Athanasiu as acting/ad interim PM in 1999). The PSDR subsequently adhered to the Social Democratic Pole of Romania (PDSR) for the 2000 Romanian general election, and fused into the Social Democratic Party (PSD) on 16 January 2001. A minority wing opposed to the merger survived as Partidul Social Democrat "Constantin Titel Petrescu", later reforming itself as the Social-Democratic Workers' Party, but was eventually dissolved in 2013. Nato nel 1990 su iniziativa di Sergiu Cunescu, si proclamò continuatore dell'eredità del Partito Social Democratico Romeno (storico), sparito nel 1948 dopo l'interdizione da parte delle autorità della Romania comunista. Il nuovo PSDR nel 1991 entrò a far parte della Convenzione Democratica Romena (CDR), salvo lasciare la coalizione nel 1995 per stringere una nuova alleanza con il Partito Democratico (PD), dalla quale nacque l' (USD). Grazie a questa, nel 1996 riuscì a far parte della maggioranza di un composito governo guidato dalla CDR. Nel 1996 fu il primo partito della Romania postrivoluzionaria a riuscire ad entrare nell'Internazionale Socialista. La scarsa efficacia dell'azione di governo, tuttavia, spinse il PSDR a cercare nuovi alleati. Sotto la presidenza di Alexandru Athanasiu, nel 2000 il partito concorse al fianco del Partito della Democrazia Sociale di Romania (PDSR) in occasione delle elezioni parlamentari e presidenziali, che sancirono la nascita del governo Năstase e riportarono Ion Iliescu alla presidenza della repubblica. Un anno più tardi si celebrò la fusione tra i due partiti, che diedero vita al Partito Social Democratico (PSD). (it)

Partia powstała w 1989, nawiązywała do ugrupowania istniejącego w latach 1893–1948 i zlikwidowanego przez komunistów. Została zarejestrowana 17 stycznia 1990. W tym samym roku samodzielnie wystartowała w wyborach parlamentarnych, otrzymując 0,5% głosów i wprowadzając 2 przedstawicieli do Izby Deputowanych. W kolejnych wyborach startowała w ramach koalicji, uzyskując parlamentarną reprezentację – 10 posłów w 1992 w ramach Rumuńskiej Konwencji Demokratycznej, 10 posłów w 1996 w ramach koalicji z Partią Demokratyczną i 5 posłów w 2000 w ramach koalicji z Partią Socjaldemokracji w Rumunii. 16 czerwca 2001 PSDR przyłączyła się do swojego ostatniego koalicjanta, współtworząc Partię Socjaldemokratyczną. Przewodniczącymi Rumuńskiej Partii Socjaldemokratycznej byli Sergiu Cunescu (1990–1999) i Alexandru Athanasiu (1999–2001). (pl)
