- Der Paneuropäische Verkehrskorridor VIII ist eine Verkehrsachse von Albanien über Nordmazedonien nach Bulgarien. Paneuropäische Verkehrskorridore sind wichtige internationale Verkehrsachsen, die jeweils auf Schiene und Straße, teilweise auch kombiniert, zum wirtschaftlichen Warenaustausch und Aufschwung in Europa beitragen sollen. Der Korridor ist in Albanien und Bulgarien eine wichtige wirtschaftliche Verkehrsader. Der Paneuropäische Verkehrskorridor VIII – in Albanien meist nur als Korridor VIII bezeichnet – verbindet als West-Ost-Achse im südlichen Balkan die albanischen Adria-Häfen mit dem Schwarzen Meer und gilt als kombinierte Verkehrsachse. Bulgarien und Nordmazedonien sollen dadurch einen verbesserten Zugang nach Westen erhalten. Albanien wie auch die anderen Länder erhoffen sich dadurch einen wirtschaftlichen Aufschwung. Eine durchgehende Eisenbahnverbindung ist (Stand 2011) in naher Zukunft nicht realistisch. In Albanien besteht zwar eine Eisenbahnstrecke bis zum Ohridsee. Diese ist jedoch in einem schlechten Zustand, die Züge verkehren nur einmal täglich, und die Fahrt dauert wegen der niedrigen Geschwindigkeit mehrere Stunden. In Nordmazedonien gibt es keine Ost-West-Verbindung. In Richtung Albanien verkehren die Eisenbahnen bis Kičevo, nach Bulgarien besteht keine Verbindung. Bereits 1910 wurde der heutige bulgarisch-nordmazedonischer Grenzort Gjueschewo an das bulgarische Eisenbahnsystem angeschlossen. (de)
- The Corridor VIII is one of the Pan-European corridors. It comprises both road and rail routes. Both commence on the Italian Adriatic coast at Bari or Brindisi, with a ferry crossing to Durrës in Albania. From there the routes cross the southern Balkans into Bulgaria and thence to Varna, on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. The road corridor follows the route: Tirana/Durrës/Vlorë – Elbasan – Skopje – Pernik – Sofia – Plovdiv – Burgas – Varna. Although as yet incomplete, it is broadly paralleled by the rail route: Durrës/Vlorë-Lin-Radožda-Kičevo-Skopje-Kumanovo-Beljakovtse-Kriva Palanka-Gyueševo-Sofija-Burgas-Varna (en)
- Il corridoio paneuropeo VIII è uno dei dieci "corridoi paneuropei" progettati per favorire il trasporto di persone e merci tra l'Europa occidentale e l’Europa orientale. Tale corridoio collegherà i porti di Bari e di Brindisi in Puglia con l'Albania, la Macedonia del Nord e la Bulgaria. Dal porto albanese di Durazzo, il corridoio si dirige verso Tirana, Skopje, Sofia, fino ai porti di Burgas, Varna sul Mar Nero. L'accordo per la sua realizzazione risale all'anno 1991. Una volta terminato, si dovrebbe sviluppare su 1 300 chilometri di rete ferroviaria e 960 chilometri di rete stradale. Si prevedono in ogni caso tempi di realizzazione lunghi considerato che per grande parte delle opere ci si trova ancora in fase di studio di fattibilità. Come possibile estensione del corridoio paneuropeo VIII in territorio italiano, è da tenere in considerazione l'intenzione di Ministero delle infrastrutture, Ferrovie dello Stato S.p.A., regione Puglia e regione Campania di realizzare una nuova linea ferroviaria ad tra Napoli e Bari che, nelle intenzioni, dovrebbe essere completata entro il 2027.
