- A light fighter or lightweight fighter is a fighter aircraft towards the low end of the practical range of weight, cost, and complexity over which fighters are fielded. The light or lightweight fighter retains carefully selected competitive features, in order to provide cost-effective design and performance. A well-designed lightweight fighter is able to match or better a heavier type plane-for-plane in many missions, and for lower cost. The lightweight class can therefore be strategically valuable. In attempts to scale this efficiency to still lower cost, some manufacturers have in recent years adopted the term “light fighter” to also refer to light primarily air-to-ground attack aircraft, some of which are modified trainer designs. These lower cost lightweight attack aircraft have become known as light combat aircraft (LCA's), and are sometimes considered to include some multirole light fighters. From 1926 the light fighter concept has been a regular thread in the development of fighter aircraft, with some notable designs entering large-scale use. (en)
- Los cazas ligeros (del inglés "Light fighters") son aviones de combate cazas diseñados con un peso complejidad y coste menores que los aviones cazas habituales. El término en inglés "lightweight fighter" (literalmente caza de peso ligero) es más habitual en la literatura moderna, e incide más en su peso bajo y sus especificaciones bajas (rango, velocidad...) pero algunas veces con capacidades que se solapan o incluso superan a los cazas convencionales, y por tanto pueden usarse intercambiándose por éstos. De cualquier forma el término se aplica para rango prácticos inferiores a la mitad de un caza convencional, pero con unas características competitivas muy seleccionadas y un proyecto altamente efectivo para ejercer la mayor fuerza con el menor coste. Los cazas ligeros bien diseñados han demostrado ser capaces de enfrentarse en incluso abatir a cazas más pesados en combate uno contra otro en muchas misiones, además de demostrar una mayor eficiencia presupuestaria, lo que les ha convertido en un concepto estratégico muy valioso. Aprovechando la eficiencia de la escala algunos fabricantes han adoptado el término de caza ligero también para referirse a los aviones de ataque a tierra, algunos de los cuales son entrenadores modificados. - Los cazas ligeros (del inglés "Light fighters") son aviones de combate cazas diseñados con un peso complejidad y coste menores que los aviones cazas habituales. El término en inglés "lightweight fighter" (literalmente caza de peso ligero) es más habitual en la literatura moderna, e incide más en su peso bajo y sus especificaciones bajas (rango, velocidad...) pero algunas veces con capacidades que se solapan o incluso superan a los cazas convencionales, y por tanto pueden usarse intercambiándose por éstos.
