- Carl Menckhoff (* 14. April 1883 in Herford; † 11. Januar 1948 in Basel) war ein deutscher Jagdflieger im Ersten Weltkrieg und Ritter des Ordens Pour le Mérite. (de)
- Carl Menckhoff (14 April 1883 – 11 January 1949) was a German First World War fighter ace. He was credited with 39 confirmed victories, the majority over opposing fighter aces. Already in his 30s when he learned to fly in February 1915, he was one of the oldest pilots in the Luftstreitkräfte (Air Force). After being severely wounded in infantry service, Menckhoff transferred to Jagdstaffel 3 (Hunting Team 3) as a vizefeldwebel (staff sergeant), afterwards being commissioned as an officer. He won the German Empire's most prestigious decoration, the Pour le Mérite ("Blue Max"), and was given command of Jagdstaffel 72 (Hunting Team 72). After being shot down and taken prisoner on 25 July 1918, he remained incarcerated until August 1919 when he escaped into Switzerland. He returned to Germany, where he succeeded in business, but where he was arrested in 1938 for currency infringements. Following his purchased release from Nazi custody he moved to Switzerland, where he remained until his death in 1949. (en)

Com mais de 30 anos quando a Grande Guerra se iniciou, Menckhoff era um dos mais velhos pilotos alemães da época. Após diversas vitórias, demonstrando uma incrível habilidade apesar da sua idade, no dia 23 de Setembro de 1917 foi abatido enquanto tentava assistir Werner Voss na sua famosa batalha contra o 56 Squadron. Ambos os pilotos foram abatidos por . Apesar de voltar a voar apenas cinco dias depois, Menckhoff voltou a ser abatido pelo 56 Squadron. A 11 de Fevereiro de 1918 foi nomeado para comandar a . A 25 de Julho de 1918, Menckhoff foi abatido por , um americano do 95th Aero Squadron. Era o primeiro combate de Avery, e Menckhoff foi capturado. Em Agosto de 1919, ele escapou do campo de prisioneiros onde estava, fugiu para a Suiça e lá permaneceu, tornando-se um empresário de sucesso até à data da sua morte. (pt)
