- Idanha-a-Velha és un llogaret del municipi d'Idanha-a-Nova, a la província de la Beira Baixa, zona del Centre (Regió de Beiras) i subregió de la Beira Interior Sud, de Portugal, amb 20,78 km² d'àrea i 63 habitants (2011). La densitat de població n'és de 3 hab/km². És un dels llogarets històrics de Portugal. Fou la seu d'un antic municipi eliminat al 1879, data en què s'agregà al municipi d'Idanha-a-Nova. Fou la seu d'una freguesia extinta el 2013, en una reforma administrativa nacional, i amb Monsanto, forma una nova freguesia denominada Unió de freguesies de Monsanto i Idanha-a-Velha amb seu a Monsanto. El topònim Idanha-a-Velha podria derivar de la denominació romana "Ciutat dels igeditans" (Civitas Igaeditanorum), terme que esdevindria Igeditânia. El nom Egitânia només apareix en documents del segle vi i en deriven la forma visigòtica Egitânia i l'àrab Idânia. (ca)

- Idanha-a-Velha (Idanha "the old") is a village in the civil parish (freguesia) of Monsanto e Idanha-a-Velha, in the municipality of Idanha-a-Nova (Idanha "the new"), central eastern Portugal, and the site of ancient Egitânia, a former bishopric. It covers an area of 20.98 km2 and had a population of 79 as of 2001. It stands in a place where a Roman city located along the once lay, the regional capital of Civitas Igaeditanorum (1st century BC) under the Romans and later the episcopal seat during occupation by the Suebi and Visigoths. It was occupied by Muslims in the 8th century who called it Exitânia and taken back by Christians in the 12th century. It was donated to the Knights Templar in the 13th century and still has traces of different ages that attest to permanent occupation by various civilisations. The Muslim invasion of Iberia in the early eighth century and the subsequent wars of Christian reconquest brought with it a serious setback to the development of the city which once was home for thousands of inhabitants. Idanha-a-Velha is een zeer oude stad gelegen aan de rivier Rio Ponsul, die is gebouwd op het romeinse Aegitania, waarvan de resten nog steeds zichtbaar zijn. Voor toeristen is de stad slechts te voet te bezoeken: autoverkeer is beperkt tot de inwoners. Onder de vele monumenten die de stad rijk is bevinden zich de delen van de oude stadsmuren, de resten van een 16e-eeuwse kerk die is gebouwd op de resten van een kerk uit de 4e eeuw, een vestingruïne en een gerestaureerde olijfolieperserij. Toponomicamente, Idanha-a-Velha poderá derivar da denominação romana "Cidade dos Igeditanos" (Civitas Igaeditanorum), terminologia que viria a tornar-se Igeditânia. O nome Egitânia só surge em documento do século VI e dele derivam a forma visigótica Egitânia e a forma árabe Idânia.
