Baroin, a lawyer, was Minister for Overseas Territories from June 2005 to March 2007 and was briefly Minister of the Interior from March to May 2007. He replaced Nicolas Sarkozy on March 26, 2007 as Interior Minister when Sarkozy left the Government to pursue his presidential candidacy. He is the companion of the journalist Marie Drucker. (en)

W latach 2005-2007 pełnił urząd ministra do spraw terytoriów zamojskich. 26 marca 2007 roku zastąpił Nicolasa Sarkozy'ego na stanowisku ministra spraw wewnętrznych i gospodarki terytorialnej.
