- Der Europäische Mathematikerkongress (englisch European Congress of Mathematics, ECM) ist ein alle vier Jahre von der European Mathematical Society (EMS) organisierter europäischer Mathematiker-Kongress. Der erste fand 1992 in Paris statt und die Kongresse sind zeitlich genau zwischen die des International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) gelegt. Auf den Kongressen werden auch Preise der EMS (EMS-Preis, Felix-Klein-Preis) verliehen. Die Kongresse dienen neben der Präsentation neuer Forschungsergebnisse auch der Vertiefung der Zusammenarbeit von Mathematikern in Europa und nach den offiziellen Statuten auch als Kommunikationsforum zwischen Mathematikern und allgemeiner Öffentlichkeit. * 1992 Paris Neben den Plenarvorträgen und den Vorträgen der eingeladenen Sprecher gibt es seit 2016 einen Vortrag eines der Abel-Preisträger (Abel Lecture, 2016 Endre Szemerédi), die Friedrich Hirzebruch Lecture (benannt nach dem ersten Präsidenten der EMS Friedrich Hirzebruch), zum Beispiel 2016 von Don Zagier gehalten, die Next Generation Outreach Lecture, die sich an Schüler wendet, und die Public Lecture (die sich an größeres Publikum wendet). - The European Congress of Mathematics (ECM) is the second largest international conference of the mathematics community, after the International Congresses of Mathematicians (ICM). The ECM are held every four years and are timed precisely between the ICM. The ECM is held under the auspices of the European Mathematical Society (EMS), and was one of its earliest initiatives. It was founded by Max Karoubi and the first edition took place in Paris in 1992. Its objectives are "to present various new aspects of pure and applied mathematics to a wide audience, to be a forum for discussion of the relationship between mathematics and society in Europe, and to enhance cooperation among mathematicians from all European countries." - Le Congrès européen de mathématiques est un congrès international de la communauté mathématiques qui a lieu tous les quatre ans. Ses objectifs sont « de présenter divers aspects nouveaux de mathématiques pures et appliquées à un large public, d'être un forum de discussion sur la relation entre les mathématiques et la société en Europe et de renforcer la coopération entre les mathématiciens de tous les pays européens ». Le congrès est organisé par la société mathématique européenne. Les prix de la Société mathématique européenne sont remis aux lauréats lors du congrès. Les congrès durent généralement une semaine. Les séances plénières sont accompagnées d'un ensemble de « mini-symposia » consacrés à un sujet particulier. En 2016, à Berlin, il y avait 43 mini-symposia, chacun d'une durée de deux heures et composé de quatre exposés de 25 minutes. (fr)
