- City Island is a neighborhood in the northeastern Bronx in New York City, located on an island of the same name approximately 1.5 miles (2.4 km) long by 0.5 miles (0.80 km) wide. City Island is located at the extreme western end of Long Island Sound, south of Pelham Bay and east of Eastchester Bay. At one time the island was incorporated within the boundaries of Pelham, Westchester County, New York, but the island is now part of New York City. City Island is part of the Pelham Islands, a group of islands that once belonged to Thomas Pell. The body of water between City Island and the even smaller, uninhabited Hart Island to the east is known as City Island Harbor. The small island adjacent to the northeast is High Island. The Stepping Stones Light, marking the main shipping channel into New York, is off the southern tip of City Island, near the Long Island shore. As of the 2010 Census, the island had a population of 4,362. Its land area is 0.395 square miles (1.02 km2). The island is part of Bronx Community District 10, and its ZIP Code is 10464. (en)

D'une longueur de 2,4 km pour une largeur de 800 mètres, avec une superficie de plus de 102 hectares, elle est la plus grande de l'archipel des Pelham Islands, et ferme la Eastchester Bay à l'est, immédiatement au sud de Pelham Bay. Au recensement de 2010, l'île comptait 4 362 habitants. Habité originellement par les amérindiens Siwanoy, l'île fut acquise en 1654 par le physicien anglais (en), établi depuis plus de vingt ans en Nouvelle-Angleterre. Puis un certain Benjamin Palmer l'acheta, avec pour ambition d'en faire une ville concurrente de Manhattan. Le nom de l'île, New City Island (littéralement « île de la Nouvelle Ville ») lui vient en partie de cette époque L'activité de City Island fut longtemps axée sur la pêche, mais surtout sur la construction navale, puisqu'un bon nombre de barges de débarquement qui ont servi aux soldats durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale y furent construites. Après la guerre, l'île produisait encore régulièrement des yachts de plaisance (dont 7 remportèrent la coupe de l'America), mais cette activité disparut après un long déclin. City Island est surtout une zone résidentielle comptant de nombreuses résidences secondaires, même si bon nombre de ses habitants y résident à l'année. Depuis 1901, City Island est raccordée au continent par un pont, le (en). Celui-ci permit à l'île d'être desservie entre 1910 et 1914 par un tramway monorail, le (en). Depuis l'île est desservie par la ligne BX29 de la Metropolitan Transportation Authority au départ du (en) dans le Bronx. Un petit pont privé partant de la côte nord-est de l'île permet d'accéder à High Island. Cet ouvrage longe un banc de sable et raccorde les deux îles entre elles. Sur la côte est de City Island se trouve le seul embarcadère qui permette l'accès à Hart Island, île abritant le plus grand cimetière de New York. (fr)

- City Island is een klein eiland gelegen in het noordoosten van de borough The Bronx van New York. De oppervlakte van het eiland bedraagt ongeveer 1 km². Het is circa 2,4 km lang en 0,8 km breed en ligt in de westelijke tip van de Long Island Sound. Het eiland behoort tot de groep ten zuiden van Pelham Bay en Pelham Bay Park. Over het eiland lopen twee straten van noord naar zuid, City Island Avenue over de gehele lengte en parallel Minnieford Avenue enkel in het noordelijk deel van het eiland. Op deze straten zijn meerdere dwarsstraten gelegen van oost naar west. City Island Avenue is in het noorden met een brug van circa 100 meter lengte met het vasteland verbonden, Minnieford Avenue is met een andere brug met nog een klein ander privaat eilandje verbonden, High Island. In 2010 woonden er 4.387 personen op het eiland. Op het eiland is een dertigtal restaurants gevestigd, veelal met vis en zeevruchten op het menu.
