- Die Keltologie ist eine Wissenschaft, die sich mit der Geschichte, den Sprachen und Literaturen sowie der Kultur keltischer Völker und ihrer Nachfahren von der Hallstattzeit bis zur Gegenwart beschäftigt. Dazu gehört auch das Studium der noch heute in Irland, Schottland, Wales und der Bretagne gesprochenen keltischen Sprachen. Keltistik ist ein anderer Begriff für das Fach Keltologie. Er war im 19. Jahrhundert im deutschsprachigen Raum gebräuchlich, wird heute jedoch kaum noch verwendet. Als Keltikum (früher: Celticum, Plural: Celtica) bezeichnet man ein literarisches oder künstlerisches Werk mit keltischem Bezug. Der Fachbegriff Keltizität (englisch celticity) will einen keltischen Ursprung besonders hervorheben. Die Keltologen heißen auch Keltisten. (de)
- Celtic studies or Celtology is the academic discipline occupied with the study of any sort of cultural output relating to the Celtic-speaking peoples (i.e. speakers of Celtic languages). This ranges from linguistics, literature and art history, archaeology and history, the focus lying on the study of the various Celtic languages, living and extinct. The primary areas of focus are the six Celtic languages currently in use: Irish, Scottish Gaelic, Manx, Welsh, Cornish, and Breton. As a university subject, it is taught at a number of universities, most of them in Ireland, the United Kingdom, or France, but also in the United States, Canada, Australia, Germany, Poland, Austria and the Netherlands. - La celtologie est une science universitaire qui traite de l'histoire, de la langue et de la civilisation des peuples celtes de la protohistoire. Interdisciplinaire, la celtologie fait appel à l’archéologie, l’histoire, la philologie. Dans le domaine linguistique elle s’intéresse aux langues celtiques survivantes (breton, cornique, écossais, gallois, mannois et irlandais), leurs versions anciennes et les langues disparues, comme le gaulois, par exemple. Elle est enseignée dans un certain nombre d’universités à travers le monde et en premier lieu en Bretagne, Écosse, Pays de Galles, Irlande, Angleterre. Des cours sont aussi dispensés dans des universités aux États-Unis, au Canada, en Allemagne, en Pologne, en Autriche et aux Pays-Bas. Les spécialistes en linguistique celte, seraient appelés celtistes ou celtisants, dès lors que les celtologues verront leurs travaux se baser sur une approche archéologique et civilisationelle. (fr)
