- Derick S. Thomson , BA, , FRSE, , conegut com a Ruaraidh MacThòmais en gaèlic escocès, fou un poeta, assagista, editor, lexicògraf escocès. Era originari de (Pabail Uarach), com els autors gaèlics Iain Crichton Smith i , però passà la major part de la seva vida a Glasgow. És conegut per haver dirigit la revista i editorial , la més duradora en llengua gaèlica. També fou President Honorari de la Llibreria de Poesia Escocesa, i membre de la Reial Societat d'Edimburg i de l'Acadèmia Britànica. Estudià a Stornoway, i anà a la Universitat d'Aberdeen, de Cambridge i . Fou mestre a les universitats d'Edimburg, Glasgow i Aberdeen. Fou professor de cèltic a Glasgow el 1963, i es retirà el 1991. També ha estat president del 1968-91; de la Scottish Gaelic Texts Society; membre del i cap del Comitè de Gaèlic del Partit Nacional Escocès (SNP). - Derick Thomson (5. srpna 1921, Stornoway – 21. března 2012), v gaelštině Ruaraidh MacThòmais, byl skotský básník píšící zejména ve skotské gaelštině, autor literárněvědných studií o skotské gaelské poezii a univerzitní pedagog v oblasti keltských studií. Narodil se ve Stornoway na ostrově Lewis a vyrůstal ve vesnici Bayble. Studoval na Aberdeenské univerzitě, na Cambridge ve velšském Bangoru. Působil i na univerzitách v Edinburghu a zejména v Glasgow, kde v letech 1963–1991 působil jako profesor keltských studií. Krom vlastní básnické tvorby se Thomson o záchranu a další rozvoj gaelštiny zasloužil i svými dalšími aktivitami: významně se podílel mimo jiné na založení gaelsky psaného časopisu Gairm (1951), s ním spojeného stejnojmenného nakladatelství a Rady pro gaelskou literaturu, které v letech 1968 až 1991 předsedal. Roku 1974 získal za své básně Ossianovu cenu. (cs)

He was originally from Lewis, but spent much of his life in Glasgow, where he was Professor of Celtic at the University of Glasgow from 1963 to 1991. He is best known for setting up the publishing house Gairm, along with its magazine, which was the longest-running periodical ever to be written entirely in Gaelic, running for over fifty years under his editorship. Gairm has since ceased, and was replaced by Gath and then STEALL. He was an Honorary President of the Scottish Poetry Library, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the British Academy. In June 2007, he received an honorary degree from Glasgow University. (en)
