- The Burgon vase is the earliest known Panathenaic amphora, dating to around 560 BC, and the name vase for the ancient Greek painter of the Burgon Group. Today it is on display in the British Museum. The 61 cm high vase is short and squat, with a very low mouth and short neck. The handles are close to the body and small. The foot is tiny in proportion to the vase. The amphora was uncovered in 1813 in Athens and is named after (1787–1858), a merchant of the Levant Company, who brought it to England and sold it to the museum. It was discovered full of bone fragments, having been used as a funerary urn. The back side of the vase was seriously damaged by a pick-axe during the excavation. (en)

Die Amphore wurde 1813 in Athen ausgegraben und ist nach Thomas Burgon (1787–1858) benannt, einem Kaufmann der Levant Company, der sie auch nach England brachte und an das Museum verkaufte. Sie wird heute im Britischen Museum mit der Vasenkatalognummer B 130 (Inv. GR 1842.7-28.834) ausgestellt. Auf der Rückseite ist sie stark beschädigt infolge eines Hackenschlags. Die Form der ins Jahr 560 v. Chr. datierten Vase ist kurz und gedrungen, die Mündung sehr niedrig, der Hals kurz. Die Henkel liegen eng an und sind klein. Der Fuß ist im Verhältnis zum Gefäß winzig. Die 61 cm hohe Burgon-Vase selbst wurde voll von Knochenresten gefunden, diente also als Aschenbehälter. (de)

El vaso, de 61 cm de alto, es corto y rechoncho, con una boca muy baja y un cuello corto. Las asas están cerca del cuerpo y son pequeñas. El pie es pequeño en proporción al vaso. El ánfora fue descubierta en 1813 en Atenas y lleva el nombre de (1787-1858), un comerciante de la , que la trajo a Inglaterra y la vendió al museo. Fue descubierta llena de fragmentos de hueso, habiendo sido utilizada como urna funeraria. La parte trasera del vaso fue seriamente dañada por un pico durante la excavación. (es)
