- La Biblioteca Nacional d'Alemanya (Deutsche Nationalbibliothek - DNB) és l'arxiu central i el centre nacional de bibliografia a Alemanya. És el resultat de la fusió el 1990 de la Deutsche Bücherei, creada a Leipzig el 1912, la Deutsche Bibliothek, creada a Frankfurt del Main el 1946 i el Deutsches Musikarchiv (arxiu musical d'Alemanya) de Berlín. - Die Deutsche Bücherei in Leipzig, Deutscher Platz 1, war eine Vorgängereinrichtung der Deutschen Nationalbibliothek, deren Teil sie heute ist. Sie wurde am 3. Oktober 1912 durch den Börsenverein der Deutschen Buchhändler zu Leipzig, die Stadt Leipzig und das Königreich Sachsen als Archiv des deutschen Schrifttums und des deutschen Buchhandels gegründet. Nach der deutschen Wiedervereinigung wurden 1990 die Deutsche Bibliothek, 1946 in Frankfurt gegründet, und die größere Deutsche Bücherei zu einer Gesamtinstitution unter der Bezeichnung Die Deutsche Bibliothek zusammengefasst. - The German National Library (DNB; German: Deutsche Nationalbibliothek) is the central archival library and national bibliographic centre for the Federal Republic of Germany. It is one of the largest libraries in the world. Its task is to collect, permanently archive, comprehensively document and record bibliographically all German and German-language publications since 1913, foreign publications about Germany, translations of German works, and the works of German-speaking emigrants published abroad between 1933 and 1945, and to make them available to the public. The DNB is also responsible for the and several special collections like the (German Exile Archive), and the (German Museum of Books and Writing). The German National Library maintains co-operative external relations on a national and international level. For example, it is the leading partner in developing and maintaining bibliographic rules and standards in Germany and plays a significant role in the development of international library standards. The cooperation with publishers has been regulated by law since 1935 for the Deutsche Bücherei Leipzig and since 1969 for the Deutsche Bibliothek Frankfurt. Duties are shared between the facilities in Leipzig and Frankfurt, with each center focusing its work in specific specialty areas. A third facility has been the Deutsches Musikarchiv Berlin (founded 1970), which deals with all music-related archiving (both printed and recorded materials). La sezione di Francoforte (ex Deutsche Bibliothek Frankfurt a.M.) È la biblioteca più importante della Germania ed è stata istituita all'indomani della riunificazione del paese del 1990 accorpando in un'unica istituzione 3 diversi istituti: la Deutsche Bücherei Leipzig (la biblioteca nazionale di Lipsia, fondata nel 1912 con il nome di Deutsche Bibliothek, biblioteca tedesca), la Deutsche Bibliothek Frankfurt (la biblioteca nazionale di Francoforte, fondata nel 1947) e il Deutsches Musikarchiv Berlin (Archivio musicale tedesco di Berlino). L'obiettivo della biblioteca è quello di catalogare, raccogliere e proteggere il patrimonio letterario in lingua tedesca a partire dal 1913, archiviandolo permanentemente e mettendolo a disposizione dell'utenza. Gli obiettivi perseguiti sono portati avanti dalle sedi di Lipsia e di Francoforte, ciascuna in relazione alle proprie aree specifiche. La Deutsche Nationalbibliothek inoltre mantiene relazioni esterne di collaborazione a livello nazionale ed internazionale, ad esempio per gli standard bibliografici, collaborando allo sviluppo dei metadati in campo biblioteconomico e partecipando attivamente al controllo di autorità (Normdateien) per i dati bibliografici. Nell'aprile 2012 ha introdotto il sistema Gemeinsame Normdatei (GND). A partire dal 1913 tutte le pubblicazioni in lingua tedesca, su qualsiasi supporto, vengono acquisite sulla base del deposito legale, conservate e messe a disposizione per la sola consultazione in sede. L'accesso è riservato ai maggiorenni muniti di una tessera della biblioteca, previo pagamento di una tassa anche per l'utilizzo delle sale di lettura. Inoltre esiste una limitazione al numero di opere consultabili per volta. Sempre a pagamento, si possono ordinare copie cartacee o digitali di singoli articoli o capitoli.
