- Presidential elections were held in Croatia in January 2005, the fourth such elections since independence in 1991. They were the first presidential elections held after the constitutional changes of November 2000, which replaced a semi-presidential system with an incomplete parliamentary system, greatly reducing the powers of the President in favor of the Prime Minister and their cabinet. Incumbent president Stjepan Mesić, who had been elected in 2000 as the candidate of the Croatian People's Party, was eligible to seek reelection to a second term and ran as an independent as the constitution prohibits the President from holding party membership while in office. The elections resulted in the landslide re-election of Mesić for a second five-year term. They were also the first in which a woman, HDZ candidate Jadranka Kosor, took part in the runoff. The percentage of the vote received by Mesić in the second round – 65.93% – is the highest of any president to date. Mesić had received an absolute majority of the votes cast within Croatia itself in the first round, but the votes of Croatian citizens living abroad forced a run-off by reducing Mesić's overall percentage to just under the necessary 50% + 1 vote threshold needed to win in the first round. Voter turnout was 50.57% in the first round and 51.04% in the second round. Mesić was sworn in for a second term on 18 February 2005 by the Chief justice of the Constitutional Court. (en)

- Las elecciones presidenciales se realizaron en Croacia el 2 de enero de 2005, fueron las cuartas elecciones presidenciales desde la independencia en 1991. Fueron las primeras elecciones presidenciales después de los cambios constitucionales de noviembre de 2000, el cual reemplazó el sistema semipresidencialista con un sistema parlamentario incompleto, reduciendo los poderes del Presidente a favor del Primer ministro y su gabinete. El presidente en funciones Stjepan Mesić, quién había sido elegido en el 2000 como candidato del Partido Popular Croata, podía buscar la reelección a un segundo mandato y compitió como independiente dado que la constitución prohíbe que el Presidente tenga afiliación política mientras este en el cargo. Las elecciones resultaron en la reelección de Mesić para un segundo mandato de cinco años. Era la primera qué en un balotaje había una mujer, Jadranka Kosor candidata del HDZ. El porcentaje recibido por Mesić en la segunda ronda 65.93 % es el más alto de cualquier presidente. Mesić había recibido una mayoría absoluta de los votos dentro Croacia en la primera ronda, pero los votos de los ciudadanos croata que viven en el extranjero forzó el balotaje. De President Stjepan Mesić ging voor herverkiezing, de regerende HDZ nomineerde Jadranka Kosor als president. In totaal werden 13 kandidaten geaccepteerd nadat dezen minstens 10.000 handtekeningen hadden gekregen (wettelijk verplicht) In de eerste verkiezingsronde op 12 januari 2005, kreeg Mesić bijna 49% van de stemmen. Hij had net niet de 50% die nodig is om meteen te winnen, Kosor lag het dichtst achter hem met 20% van de stemmen, en verrassend genoeg had de onafhankelijke kandidaat Boris Mikšić 18% van de stemmen. - Wybory prezydenckie w Chorwacji w 2005 roku odbyły się w dwóch turach: 2 i 16 stycznia 2005. Były to czwarte wybory prezydenckie od czasu ogłoszenia niepodległości. Wybory wygrał Stjepan Mesić, ubiegający się o reelekcję prezydent Chorwacji. Państwowa komisja wyborcza ogłosiła 15 kwietnia 2004 listę kandydatów na stanowisko prezydenta państwa. O urząd ponownie ubiegał się urzędujący prezydent Stjepan Mesić. Główną kontrkandydatką okazała się jedna z liderek Chorwackiej Wspólnoty Demokratycznej Jadranka Kosor. Ostatecznie wystartowało 13 osób, każda z nich musiała przedłożyć co najmniej 10 tys. podpisów obywateli popierających jej kandydaturę. (pl)

Победу на них одержал действующий Президент Хорватии, который был переизбран на второй президентский срок. В выборах приняло участие 13 кандидатов, однако основными кандидатами были действующий президент Степан Месич и бывшая радиожурналистка, Ядранка Косор, которая занимала пост вице-премьер-министра в правительстве, сформированном Христианско-демократическим содружеством.
