- The 1936 German football championship, the 29th edition of the competition, was won by 1. FC Nürnberg by defeating Fortuna Düsseldorf 2–1 after extra time in the final. It was Nuremberg's sixth championship and its first since 1927. Fortuna Düsseldorf made its second final appearance, having previously won the competition in 1933 but, after 1936, the team would never appear in the final again. Nuremberg had eliminated the champions of the previous two seasons, Schalke 04 in the semi-finals, making 1936 the only final from 1933 to 1942 not to include the club. Schalke however would return to its winning ways the following season when it defeated Nuremberg in the 1937 final. PSV Chemnitz's Erwin Helmchen was the top scorer of the 1936 championship with ten goals. It was the last German championship final in Berlin to be played at a venue other than the Olympiastadion, the latter having been built for the 1936 Summer Olympics and being used for all finals from 1937 to 1944 and six more after the Second World War. The sixteen 1935–36 Gauliga champions competed in a group stage of four groups of four teams each, with the group winners advancing to the semi-finals. The two semi-final winners then contested the 1936 championship final. The 1936 season saw the introduction of a game for third place, played between the two losing semi-finalists. (en)
- Die 29. deutsche Meisterschaftssaison 1935/36 brachte sportlich einige Überraschungen. So erreichte der FC Schalke 04 zum ersten Mal seit drei Jahren nicht das Meisterschaftsfinale und scheiterte im Halbfinale. Schon in der Vorrunde wurde es recht eng für die Gelsenkirchener. Eine große Überraschung war auch der Vorstoß des schlesischen Meisters Vorwärts-Rasensport Gleiwitz ins Halbfinale dieser Meisterschaft. Das überragende Team dieser Saison war allerdings der 1. FC Nürnberg, der zum 8. Mal das Meisterschaftsfinale erreichte und zum 6. Mal deutscher Meister wurde. Zudem hatten die Nürnberger bereits im Dezember 1935 den erstmals ausgetragenen Tschammerpokal, den Vorläufer des DFB-Pokals, gewonnen. Dieser zählt allerdings zur Saison 1934/35 und so wird diese Leistung nicht als offizielles Double anerkannt. Finalgegner der Nürnberger war Fortuna Düsseldorf, die nach 1933 zum 2. Mal das Finale erreichte, aber dort letztlich unglücklich unterlag. (de)

Seize clubs participent à la compétition nationale, il s'agit des 16 vainqueurs des Gauliga, les championnats régionaux mis en place par le régime nazi. Les 16 équipes disputent un premier tour où elles sont réparties en 4 poules de 4 équipes, chacune rencontre ses 3 adversaires 2 fois, à domicile et à l'extérieur. L'équipe classée première du groupe à la fin de la première phase est qualifiée pour le tableau final, qui se joue en demi-finale et finale sur match simple. Le FC Nuremberg remporte la finale en s'imposant face au Fortuna Düsseldorf. C'est le 6e titre de champion d'Allemagne de son histoire. (fr)

Titelverdediger Schalke kon zich niet voor een vierde opeenvolgende keer plaatsen voor de finale en verloor in de halve finale van de latere kampioen. Verrassing van de eindronde was de Silezische kampioen Vorwärts RaSpo Gleiwitz die het tot in de halve finale schopte. Neurenberg won ook de Tschammerpokal, de voorloper van de huidige DFB-Pokal en haalde zo als eerste club in de geschiedenis de dubbel binnen. (nl)
