- The 1908–09 Australia rugby union tour of the British Isles was a collection of friendly rugby union games undertaken by the Australia national rugby union team against invitational and national teams from England and Wales, as well as several games against sides from North America. This was the first Australian tour of the Northern Hemisphere and the side is sometimes referred to as the "First Wallabies". Both the New Zealand and South African teams had toured Europe in 1905 and 1906 respectively, both achieving unexpected but deserved success against club and international opposition. Despite the success of these two touring teams, Australia suffered poor press and with only a single win after the teams' first twelve international matches in its history to that point, few people suggested the team would do well. Against low expectations the Australians played well, winning 25 of 31 matches played on the tour and with some commentators writing that the team would have achieved better results if they had not picked up so many injuries. Australia took in two recognised international games, against Wales and England, but failed to play any games in Scotland or Ireland due to the Irish and Scottish Unions resenting the International Rugby Board's attitude regarding the Australian invitation. Entgegen den niedrigen Erwartungen entschieden sie 31 Spiele für sich. - Il Tour della Nazionale di rugby a 15 dell'Australia 1908-1909 fu una serie di incontri di Rugby a 15 disputati dalla nazionale Australiana contro squadre di club, ad inviti e nazionali di Inghilterra Galles Canada e USA. Fu il primo tour australiano nell'emisfero nord e la compagine viene solitamente indicata come "I primi Wallabies". La squadra era formata quasi esclusivamente di giocatori del Nuovo Galles del Sud a causa del passaggio di molte squadre del Queensland al Rugby league. In precedenza, avevano visitato l'emisfero nord le rappresentative di Nuova Zelanda (1905) e Sudafrica (1906). Entrambe avevano ottenuto importanti ed inattesi successi contro club e nazionali. Malgrado il successo dei due precedenti, il tour australiano ebbe scarso risalto sulla stampa soprattutto perché l'Australia aveva avuto scarsi risultati sino ad allora (1 vittoria in 12 partite) nei test contro Nuova Zelanda e le selezioni britanniche dei tour del 1899 e del 1904 dunque non vi erano grandi aspettative. Malgrado questo, gli Australiani disputarono un discreto tour e molti commentatori ritennero che avrebbero potuto fare meglio se avessero avuto più fortuna e meno infortuni Furono disputati due match internazionali ufficiali contro Galles e Inghilterra, ma non si riuscì ad organizzare match ufficiali contro Scozia e Irlanda perché le due federazioni rifiutarono l'incontro.
