  • L'Association for Computing Machinery (« association pour la machinerie informatique ») ou ACM est une association internationale basée aux États-Unis dont l'objectif est le développement et le soutien à la science et à la technologie informatique.L'ACM a été fondée en 1947, ce qui en fait la première organisation vouée à l'informatique. Elle édite un grand nombre de magazines et de journaux scientifiques, dont l'une, Communications of the ACM, a été l'organe de référence en recherche et en enseignement d'informatique de 1960 à 1980. Le programme d'enseignement universitaire en quatre ans proposé par cette revue en 1973 a été adopté par la plupart des établissements occidentaux de cette époque. Une autre revue, Computing surveys, établissait de façon exhaustive l'état de l'art dans un domaine spécialisé différent pour chaque publication. Enfin, l'ACM a servi de point focal pour constituer une importante banque de sous-programmes libres - principalement scientifiques -, d'abord en Algol, plus tardivement en FORTRAN, et enfin en langage C. Elle organise aussi des conférences technologiques et scientifiques, dont elle publie les compte-rendus. L'ACM a également une grande bibliothèque électronique de publications en informatique.L'ACM décerne également un certain nombre de prix scientifiques et technologiques, dont le plus célèbre est le Prix Turing.On peut devenir membre de l'ACM en étant soi-même parrainé par deux membres.
