Jahrhundert den Handel der Region mit dem kontinentalen Europa. Als „Stämme von Galway“ (englisch Tribes of Galway) bezeichnete sie in abfällig gemeinter Weise erstmals Oliver Cromwell. Il s'agissait des familles Athy, Blake, Bodkin, Browne, D'Arcy, Deane, Ffont, Ffrench, Joyce, Kirwan, Lynch, Martin, Morris and Skerritt. Elles étaient toutes d'origine anglo-normande ou cambro-normande à l'exception des familles D'Arcy ou Darcy, en gaélique Ó Dorchaidhe, et Kirwan, en gaélique Ó Ciardhubháin, qui étaient d'origine irlandaise. They were the families of Athy, Blake, Bodkin, Browne, Darcy, Deane, Font, French, Joyce, Kirwan, Lynch, Martyn, Morris and Skerritt. Of the 14 families, 12 were of Anglo Norman origin, while two — the Darcy (Ó Dorchaidhe) and Kirwan (Ó Ciardhubháin) families — were Normanised Irish Gaels. (en)
