- El presidente de la República del Uruguay es el jefe de Estado y jefe de Gobierno de la República Oriental del Uruguay, presidente del Consejo de Ministros y comandante en jefe de las Fuerzas Armadas. Dicho mandatario conforma el Poder Ejecutivo, junto con el Consejo de Ministros y la Presidencia de la República con el secretario y el prosecretario de la Presidencia, así como el director de la Oficina de Planeamiento y Presupuesto. Hasta la fecha, ha habido un total de 37 personas que asumieron el cargo y 42 presidencias (esto es porque Fructuoso Rivera en 1830 y 1839, Francisco Antonino Vidal en 1880 y 1886, José Batlle y Ordóñez en 1903 y 1911, Julio María Sanguinetti en 1984 y 1994, y Tabaré Vázquez en 2004 y 2014 fueron elegidos para ocupar más de una vez el cargo). De las personas elegidas para el cargo, treinta y dos fueron elegidas en treinta y seis elecciones (diecinueve con sufragio indirecto y diecisiete con sufragio directo). En cuanto al término del mandato por el que fueron elegidos (sin contar la presidencia actual), veintiuno terminaron su mandato, uno dio paso a una nueva forma de gobierno de forma constitucional, siete presentaron renuncia al cargo, tres dieron golpes de Estado, uno fue asesinado y dos murieron por causas naturales. Además dos vicepresidentes, dos Ministros de Guerra y dos senadores asumieron tras la falta de un presidente. Fructuoso Rivera asumió el cargo el 6 de noviembre de 1830, siendo el primer titular. Desde el 1 de marzo de 2020, el presidente de la República es Luis Lacalle Pou, quien fue electo en las elecciones generales de 2019. (es)
- The president of Uruguay (Spanish: Presidente del Uruguay), officially known as the president of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay (Presidente de la República Oriental del Uruguay), is the head of state and head of government of Uruguay. Their rights are determined in the Constitution of Uruguay. Along with the Secretariat of the Presidency, the Council of Ministers and the director of the Office of Planning and Budget, the President is part of the executive branch. In case of absence, their office is exercised by the vice president. In turn, the president of the republic is the commander in chief of the Armed Forces. Since 1990, the president's term has begun and ended on 1 March. This same date for ending the presidency also happened during the National Council of Government (1952–1967) and it has been not unusual since 1839.The current president since 1 March 2020 is Luis Lacalle Pou, who is the 42nd president of Uruguay—and also the child of the 36th president, Luis Alberto Lacalle. Lavalleja liderou a independência da Província Oriental, que havia sido tomada pelo Reino de Portugal em 1816 e, subsequentemente, pertencia ao Império do Brasil desde 1822.
