- Die Ninth Air Force (deutsch 9. US-Luftflotte) war eine nummerierte Luftflotte (englisch Numbered Air Force) der United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) und der daraus hervorgegangenen United States Air Force während des Zweiten Weltkriegs und des Kalten Krieges. Sie ging aus dem 1942 gebildeten Hauptquartier U.S. Army Middle East Air Force hervor und war ab Herbst 1943 auf dem nordwesteuropäischen Kriegsschauplatz aktiv. Nach dem Krieg war sie für mehrere Jahrzehnte für taktische Jäger-Einheiten an der US-Ostküste zuständig. Im Jahre 1983 wurde die Ninth Air Force zur Air-Force-Komponente des United States Central Command unter der Bezeichnung (USCENTAF). Letztere war ab 1990 im Nahen Osten stationiert, wobei sie an Operationen gegen den Irak und am Krieg in Afghanistan teilnahm. Bis 2009 wurde die Ninth Air Force als USCENTAF bzw. USAFCENT geführt. In einer komplizierten Übertragung der Abstammung wurde die Tradition der im Zweiten Weltkrieg und danach aktiven Ninth Air Force allein von den United States Air Forces Central übernommen und eine neue , die genaugenommen keine vorherige Geschichte hat, wurde an der US-Ostküste aktiviert. - The Ninth Air Force (Air Forces Central) is a Numbered Air Force of the United States Air Force headquartered at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina. It is the Air Force Service Component of United States Central Command (USCENTCOM), a joint Department of Defense combatant command responsible for U.S. security interests in 27 nations that stretch from the Horn of Africa through the Persian Gulf region, into Central Asia. Activated as 9th Air Force on 8 April 1942, the command fought in World War II both in the Western Desert Campaign in Egypt and Libya and as the tactical fighter component of the United States Strategic Air Forces in Europe, engaging enemy forces in France, the Low Countries and in Nazi Germany. During the Cold War, it was one of two Numbered Air Forces of Tactical Air Command. Co-designated as United States Central Command Air Forces (CENTAF) on 1 January 1983, on 2009 as part of a complicated transfer of lineage, the lineage and history of the Ninth Air Force was bestowed on USAFCENT, and a new Ninth Air Force, which technically had no previous history, was activated. On 20 August 2020, the 9 AF designation was returned to USAFCENT with the deactivation of the 2009 established 9 AF. It has fought in the 1991 Gulf War, War in Afghanistan (OEF-A, 2001–present), the Iraq War (OIF, 2003–2010), as well as various engagements within USCENTCOM. (en)

Il s'agit de la composante aérienne de l'United States Central Command (le « Commandement central des États-Unis », abrégé en USCENTCOM) responsable pour défendre la sécurité et les intérêts des États-Unis dans 27 pays s'étendant de la corne de l'Afrique jusqu'en Asie centrale en passant par le golfe Persique. Le commandement fut d'abord créé en tant que la 9th Air Force (la « 9e Force aérienne ») en 1942 pour participer à la Seconde Guerre mondiale. En 1983, il obtint également la désignation d'United States Central Command Air Forces (les « Force aériennes du Commandement central des États-Unis », abrégé en CENTAF), c'est-à-dire que la 9th Air Force et les CENTAF partageaient le même commandant. En 2009, il adopta son nom actuel et une nouvelle Ninth Air Force (« Neuvième Force aérienne ») fut créée, mais celle-ci ne reprend pas l'histoire de l'ancienne 9th Air Force ayant combattu durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale dont le linéage appartient à l'USAFCENT. Il est prévu que la Ninth Air Force et l'USAFCENT partagent de nouveau un même commandant après que les États-Unis aient terminé ses guerres actuelles. En plus de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, le commandement a participé à la guerre du Golfe en 1991, à la guerre d'Afghanistan de 2001 à 2014 et à la guerre d'Irak de 2003 à 2010 en plus de nombreux engagements avec l'USCENTCOM.
