- Kristoffer Throndsen (c. 1500–1565), posthumously also with the family name Rustung, was a squire, admiral, feudal overlord in Norway and Denmark, privateer captain and pirate. Kristoffer served Archbishop Olav Engelbrektsson, the interregnum leader of Norway, in the last years of the Kalmar Union. Kristoffer is famous for playing a role in the last years before the Reformation in Norway, first as the head of the national fleet, defending Norway from attacking Danish ships; and also as the murderer of Vincent Lunge, a Danish nobleman sent to Bergen in 1536 to enforce the choice the King of Denmark Christian III as king of Norway. This dramatic moment in Norwegian history is memorialized today in an annual "midnight opera" sponsored by the Norwegian Ministry of Culture. Titled Olav Engelbrektsson, it takes place on the premises of the castle, outside Trondheim. Kristoffer appealed for pardon from Christian III, probably for the murder but also for his piracy of the Norwegian coast under foreign flags, under which he attacked Danish ships and installations in Norway after 1536/1537. He was granted a post under the Danish crown, which badly needed a naval leader. He served for several years as an admiral in the Danish-Norwegian Navy, and later in Copenhagen as a Royal Danish Consul to the King. His most famous child was Anna Throndsen, known in Norway as "the Scottish Lady" (Skottefruen). Anna is famous in modern-day Norway, for her days in the court of Mary Queen of Scots, during her marriage to James Hepburn, Lord Bothwell. (en)

Kristoffer Throndsen sera également au service de l’archevêque , dirigeant norvégien pendant l’ qui suit la fin de l’Union de Kalmar. Kristoffer Throndsen est connu pour le rôle qu’il joue dans les années précédant la réforme protestante en Norvège. Il dirige la flotte norvégienne, défendant la Norvège des attaques des navires danois. Il assassine Vincens Lunge, un noble danois envoyé par le roi Christian III de Danemark à Bergen dans les années 1520 pour faire valoir l’annexion de la Norvège par le Danemark. Cet épisode de l’histoire de la Norvège est commémoré tous les deux ans lors d’un traditionnel « opéra de minuit », financé à l’origine par le ministère norvégien de la culture. Cet opéra intitulé Olav Engelbrektsson est joué dans le château de Steinvikholm, à proximité de Trondheim. Après 1536, Kristoffer Throndsen commets un certain nombre d’actes de piraterie, sous le pavillon de puissances étrangères, le long des côtes norvégiennes, attaquant les navires ainsi que les installations danoises en Norvège. Vers 1542-43, Kristoffer Throndsen demande à Christian III de lui accorder l’amnistie pour ses actes de piraterie et probablement également pour le meurtre de Vincens Lunge. Il l’obtient et devient amiral de la flotte danoise, puis consul du roi du Danemark, à Copenhague. Son enfant le plus célèbre est Anna Throndsen, connue en Norvège sous le surnom de « la Dame écossaise » (Skottefruen). Elle est l’épouse de James Hepburn, connu surtout pour sa liaison avec Marie Stuart, reine d'Écosse, dont il finit par être le troisième mari. (fr)
