- Don Valley Stadium was a sports stadium in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. The venue, which was completed in September 1990, hosted the 1991 World Student Games. It was designed by Sheffield City Council's Design & Building Services and named after the nearby River Don. It was demolished in 2013. The stadium and facilities were also used for a variety of other events and sports. It served as a training base for the City of Sheffield Athletic Club and was the home of the Sheffield Half Marathon. Rotherham United F.C. played their home matches at Don Valley between 2008 and 2012 when they were without a ground in Rotherham. Rugby league and American football were staged there, and the Channel 4 celebrity sports show The Games also used the stadium. To save money, Sheffield City Council closed the stadium in September 2013. The site has since been sold and redeveloped to include a research centre, sports centre and educational facilities for local universities. At the time of its closure, Don Valley Stadium was the second largest athletics stadium in the UK – with a seated capacity of 25,000 – behind the London Olympic Stadium. (en)

Il complesso inaugurato nel 1990, pronto per la Giochi Studenteschi, da allora è diventato un centro di profitti per l'atletica nella zona. Prende il nome dal fiume Don, che si trova nelle vicinanze. Lo stadio veniva utilizzato anche per serie televisive, giochi concerti: esso ha ospitato artisti come Céline Dion, Def Leppard, Spice Girls, The Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, Michael Jackson, U2, Tina Turner e Red Hot Chili Peppers. Com capacidade para 25.000 pessoas e inaugurado em setembro de 1990, é o segundo maior estádio de Sheffield e da região, atrás somente do Hillsborough Stadium. O estádio é famoso no Reino Unido por ser o segundo maior estádio do país em capacidade para atividades olímpicas (tendo sido superado recentemente pelo Estádio Olímpico de Londres). Desde sua inauguração, o Don Valley tem sido usado como um eficiente local para shows ao vivo, podendo abrigar, durante eventos desse tipo, cerca de 50.000 pessoas. Entre os nomes da música mundial que já se apresentaram no local estão Michael Jackson (que durante um único show em 1997 garantiu o recorde de audiência do estádio, de quase 60 mil pessoas), U2, Celine Dion e Def Leppard.
