- Die Marine Attack Squadron 214 (VMA-214) Black Sheep ist ein gegenwärtig mit AV-8B Harrier II ausgerüsteter Einsatzverband des United States Marine Corps (USMC). Die Staffel ist auf der Marine Corps Air Station Yuma (Arizona) stationiert und direkt dem Kommando der Marine Aircraft Group 13 (MAG-13) unterstellt, die ihrerseits dem 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (3d MAW) untersteht. Das Geschwader ist unter der Bezeichnung „die schwarzen Schafe“ während des Zweiten Weltkrieges unter der Leitung von Oberst „Pappy“ Gregory Boyington bekannt geworden und war Vorlage für die Fernsehserie Pazifikgeschwader 214. Für ihre Leistungen erhielt die Staffel als erste Jagdfliegereinheit des USMC eine Presidential Unit Citation. (de)

Son nom de baptême était à l'origine Baa Baa Black Sheep, il devient au fil du temps Black Sheep. Il trouve son origine pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, lorsqu'un de ses commandants était le colonel Grégory « Pappy » Boyington. - Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 214 (VMFA-214) is a United States Marine Corps attack squadron consisting of Lockheed Martin F-35B STOVL jets. It is currently in the process of transitioning from its fleet of AV-8B Harrier (V/STOL) jets. The squadron is based at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Arizona and is under the command of Marine Aircraft Group 13 (MAG-13) and the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (3rd MAW). The squadron is best known as the Black Sheep of World War II fame and for one of its commanding officers, Colonel Gregory "Pappy" Boyington, whose memoirs also inspired the 1970s television show Baa Baa Black Sheep, later syndicated as Black Sheep Squadron, which dramatized the squadron's exploits during the war.
