- Τροπική ξυλεία (αγγλ. Tropical timber) είναι οποιοδήποτε είδος ξυλείας προέρχεται από τα τροπικά δάση της βροχής (tropical rainforests), ή τα τροπικά και υποτροπικά δάση των πλατυφύλλων, ή τα τεχνητά δασικά οικοσυστήματα -φυτείες- (forest plantations) που καλλιεργούνται στην τροπική ζώνη του πλανήτη. Τυπικά είδη τροπικής ξυλείας, τα οποία έχουν βιομηχανική σπουδαιότητα, και που συχνά απαντώνται είναι τα εξής:
* Μαόνια (Mahogany)
* Τικ (Teak)
* Έβενος (Ebony)
* Παλίσανδρος (Rosewood)
* Ιρόκο (Milicia) και πολλά άλλα τροπικά είδη. Η υπερεκμετάλλευση των τροπικών δασών του πλανήτη, ιδίως της Αμαζονίας, της Αφρικής και της Ν.Α. Ασίας, γίνεται με σκοπό την όσο το δυνατόν μεγαλύτερη παραγωγή, πολύτιμης τροπικής ξυλείας. Ταυτόχρονα, η παράνομη και ανεξέλεγκτη υλοτομία αυτών των δασικών οικοσυστημάτων, που θεωρούνται «οι πνεύμονες» της Γης, έχουν οδηγήσει σε αρνητικότατες συνέπειες για τη φύση και το δασικό περιβάλλον, για τους τοπικούς πληθυσμούς, την πανίδα και τη χλωρίδα, που συνεχώς φθίνουν και καταστρέφονται.
