The Wild Blue Yonder is a 2005 science fiction fantasy film by German director Werner Herzog. It was presented at the 62nd Venice Film Festival, where it won the FIPRESCI Award. It was screened in competition at the Mar del Plata International Film Festival and the Sitges Film Festival, winning the "Carnet Jove – Special Mention" award at the latter. Most of the film consists of recontextualized documentary footage which is overlaid with fictional (sometimes fantastical) narration. This technique was used in Herzog's earlier film Lessons of Darkness (1992).

Das Science-Fiction-Fantasy-Essay wurde größtenteils aus Found Footage montiert und nutzt dazu unveröffentlichtes Material der Raumfähre Atlantis aus einer NASA-Missions-Dokumentation, Unterwasseraufnahmen aus der Antarktis von Henry Kaiser sowie Interviews mit Wissenschaftlern über Reisen im Weltraum, die vom Schauspieler Brad Dourif kommentiert und in neuem Kontext neu verortet werden. Die Geschichte entwickelt sich dabei in gegenläufigen Erzählsträngen. Die 13 Filmbeiträge aus verschiedenen Ländern wurden im Rahmen des Festivals "Über Morgen" präsentiert, welches von November 2007 bis Juni 2008 durch rund 100 deutsche Städte tourte. (de)
