- اللجنة الدستورية السورية هي جمعية تأسيسية مرخصة من الأمم المتحدة، وتسعى إلى التوفيق بين الحكومة السورية برئاسة الرئيس بشار الأسد والمعارضة السورية، في سياق عملية السلام السورية، من خلال تعديل الدستور الحالي أو اعتماد دستور جديد لأجل سوريا. وتأمل الأمم المتحدة أن يؤدي هذا إلى مفاوضات سلام تؤدي إلى نهاية سلمية الحرب الأهلية السورية، التي كانت مستعرة لأكثر من ثماني سنوات بحلول تشكيل اللجنة. تم تشكيلها بموافقة رسمية من الطرفين المعنيين، وكذلك الأمم المتحدة نفسها. وصفها الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة أنطونيو غوتيريس بأنها جزء من عملية سلام «مملوكة لسوريا وتتزعمها سوريا». القرارات التي تتخذها ليست ملزمة بموجب القانون السوري وتعتمد اللجنة على حسن نية الطرفين لتنفيذها. - The Syrian Constitutional Committee is a United Nations-facilitated constituent assembly process that seeks to reconcile the Syrian Government headed by President Bashar al-Assad and the Syrian opposition, in the context of the Syrian peace process, by amending the current or adopting a new Constitution of Syria. The UN hopes that this would lead to negotiations which would subsequently lead to a peaceful end of the Syrian Civil War, which had been raging for more than eight years by the time of the committee's formation. The Constitutional Committee was formed with the formal approval of both parties involved—namely the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic and the opposition Syrian Negotiations Commission, with the facilitation of the United Nations. It is described by UN General Secretary António Guterres as part of a "Syrian-owned and Syrian-led" peace process. The decisions it takes are not binding under Syrian law and the committee relies on the good faith of both parties for their implementation. The committee is also not bound by any deadlines or timetables. (en)
