- Die Ausübung der Prostitution in Deutschland (BRD) war und ist prinzipiell zulässig, grundsätzlich ist aber die Prostitution Minderjähriger, die Zwangsprostitution und die Ausübung der Prostitution in einem Sperrbezirk strafbar (§ 184f StGB). Im Jahr 2000 bezeichnete das Verwaltungsgericht Berlin die Prostitution als nicht mehr sittenwidrig. Der darin ausgedrückte Paradigmenwechsel durch eine zivilrechtliche Neubewertung sollte vom bisherigen „Schutz vor der Prostitution“ zum „Schutz in der Prostitution“ führen, um die Entscheidung von Menschen, in der Prostitution tätig zu sein, zu respektieren und ihre Rechte zu stärken. Dennoch bleibt ihre Bewertung gesellschaftlich uneinheitlich. Eine kontroverse Debatte zur Reform des Prostitutionsgesetzes (ProstG von 2001) führte zu dem Prostituiertenschutzgesetz im Jahr 2016 (ProstSchG). Das sogenannte Nordische oder Schwedische Modell wurde vom Gesetzgeber nicht verabschiedet. Somit blieb in Deutschland auch nach der Reform des ProstG im internationalen Vergleich eine liberale Praxis bestehen. Ende 2019 waren 40.400 Prostituierte in Deutschland offiziell angemeldet. Cependant, la stigmatisation des prostituées persiste, et beaucoup continuent à mener une double vie. Les autorités considèrent actuellement que l'exploitation courante de femmes venues de l'Europe de l'Est constitue le principal problème associé à cette profession, et que la légalisation n'a pas vraiment amélioré leurs conditions de travail.
