- Pinkpop Festival je přehlídka rockové a elektronické hudby, která se koná v nizozemském městě , které patří k obci . Koná se každoročně o svátku Letnice (název pochází z nizozemského názvu Letnic Pinksteren). Je uveden v Guinnessově knize rekordů jako nejstarší festival populární hudby v Nizozemsku. První ročník uspořádal v roce 1970 v Geleenu Jan Smeets, v roce 1988 se festival přesunul do Landgraafu. Původně byl jednodenní, v roce 1995 byl prodloužen na dvoudenní a od roku 1997 trvá tři dny. Počet účastníků je omezen na maximálně 60 000 osob. Ve festivalovém areálu se hraje na čtyřech scénách. V historii festivalu zde dohromady vstoupilo přes 700 různých interpretů. Byli mezi nimi Metallica, Foo Fighters, Rage Against The Machine, Pearl Jam, Flogging Molly, Porcupine Tree, Bad Religion, Serj Tankian, , Kate Nash, Blood Red Shoes, Eagles of Death Metal, The Smashing Pumpkins, 30 Seconds to Mars, Martin Garrix, Paul McCartney, Rammstein, Rolling Stones, Robbie Williams, Bruce Springsteen, The Cure, Linkin Park, Snow Patrol, Green Day, Babylon Circus, , George Ezra, Seasick Steve, , Maria Mena, Yeasayer. Començat l'any 1970, a Burgemeester Damen Sportpark, en la ciutat de Geleen, PinkPop és el més antic i més llarg festival dedicat a la música pop i rock en el món. Da das Festival seit 1970 jährlich ohne Unterbrechung stattgefunden hat, ist es das älteste kontinuierlich veranstaltete Musikfestival Europas. Das Festivalgelände befindet sich auf einer ehemaligen Trabrennbahn in Landgraaf, einem an Kerkrade in der Provinz Limburg grenzenden Ort. Kerkrade selbst liegt nur wenige Kilometer nordwestlich von Aachen. Das Festival geht über drei Tage und bietet mittlerweile knapp 60.000 Besuchern Platz (Stand: 2008). Der Name Pinkpop ist eine Zusammensetzung aus zwei Wörtern: Dem niederländischen Pinksteren (zu deutsch: Pfingsten) und dem international benutzten Musikgattungsbegriff Pop. If Pentecost falls on an early date in May, the festival is held later in June. Nowadays, Pinkpop is a three-day festival, from Saturday through Monday when on Pentecost weekend, or Friday through Sunday otherwise, with a 60,000 people per day capacity, and with performances on 4 separate stages. From 2006 through 2011, Pinkpop sold out six years in a row. During 44 editions, more than 2 million people have attended Pinkpop. Some 700 music acts have played at the festival. In 1994 (the 25th edition), it was decided to sell only 60,000 tickets, to prevent overcrowding due to the popularity of the festival. In 1995, it was made into a 2-day festival. Two years later, in 1997, this was further expanded to three days. 2007 saw a spin-off, later in the year, on 11 August, called , for an older rock audience, with bands that previously performed there in past decades. This spin-off was held again in following years, with exception of 2011, in which the organisation was not able to sign enough interesting older bands. In 2008, Pinkpop was for the first time in its history not held on Pentecost weekend, which fell too early that year for the convenience of fans and performers alike. This was decided following the 2005 edition, in which the Pentecost weekend also fell early and therefore Pinkpop could not convince many great performers to come play at the festival. Sales were disappointing in 2005, so by shifting the 2008 festival, the organisation hoped to solve these problems. Pinkpop 2008 turned out to have had the largest concert attendance to date. The dates for the 2010, 2013, 2015 and 2016 edition have been shifted as well, for similar reasons. The 2020 and 2021 Pinkpop festivals were not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic. (en)

Het festival duurt sinds 1996 drie dagen en trekt per dag ongeveer 68.000 mensen. Sinds de eerste editie heeft het festival ruim anderhalf miljoen bezoekers gehad en hebben er meer dan 500 verschillende artiesten en bands opgetreden. Pinkpop is het langstlopende jaarlijkse popfestival ter wereld. Het festival is een aantal keer van locatie gewisseld. In principe wordt het evenement sinds 2008 in elk jaar waarin Pinksteren vroeg valt, niet met Pinksteren gehouden, maar in een ander weekend, dat in of dichter bij de maand juni ligt. De reden hiervoor is dat Pinksteren anders te ver van andere Europese festivals zou liggen en er dan niet veel bands op tournee zijn in Europa, met als gevolg dat er in het Pinksterweekend te weinig bands zouden kunnen optreden.
