- Pet Shop of Horrors is a Japanese horror manga created by Matsuri Akino. The series focuses on the eccentric Count D, proprietor of a mysterious pet shop located in the heart of Chinatown, and the numerous patrons who visit his shop. The manga, published by Ohzora Publishing in 10 tankōbon volumes, consists of 41 chapters in total. It has been licensed for distribution in the United States by Tokyopop. Matsuri created a sequel in 2008, "New Petshop of Horrors" (新恐怖寵物店) It was licensed by Tokyopop and renamed "Pet Shop of Horrors: Tokyo", but the series was dropped at 8 volumes - four volumes short of the 12 volumes it ran in Japan. In 2013 Matsuri started a spin-off prequel series called "Pet Shop of Horrors: Passage" (パサージュ編), which follows Count D's grandfather in Fin de siècle Paris. It has been irregularly published by Harlequin in their monthly comic magazine "Harlequin Original" and has been collected in 5 volumes, with no definitive ending. A second spin-off series titled "Pet Shop of Horrors: Ark Adrift" (漂泊の箱舟編) is currently being serialized in Harlequin's fantasy magazine Mugentou, starting in 2018 and collected in 3 volumes as of May 2020. It is another prequel featuring Count D's father as the protagonist. (en)

Il protagonista della serie è l'eccentrico e favoloso Conte D, proprietario di un misterioso negozio d'animali al centro di Chinatown, a Los Angeles, ogni giorno sempre impegnato con nuovi ed intricati casi misteriosi scaturiti dalle vendite, per la maggior parte, dei suoi animali. In Nord America il manga è stato pubblicato dalla Tokyopop; in Italia è inedito. Della serie sono stati prodotti e distribuiti quattro OAV, ognuno riprendente un determinato periodo del fumetto, come episodio a sé stante. In origine gli OAV dovevano essere molti di più, di conseguenza è impossibile comprendere la storia completa tramite la sola visione dei prodotti animati. (it)

Tanto no mangá quanto no anime, cada história começa com a letra D, que significa devil (diabo em inglês) ou demon (demônio), ou vem do Conde D (dono do pet shop, apresentado como Count D em algumas versões). - Actor Robin Hendrix was a one-hit wonder. After the phenomenal success of his debut movie, Robin couldn't get any more acting jobs. It seemed he'd been stereotyped by the very role that made him famous. To top it off, his wife has left him. Robin loves keeping pet reptiles, and so he goes to Count D's to pick up an additional pet to cheer himself up. But Count D has something special for Robin: a very rare species of reptile known as Medusa for its lethal stare, with the face and upper body of a beautiful woman, but the lower half of a large lizard.
