- El Melodifestivalen de 2004, volvió a estar compuesto por cuatro semifinales realizadas en distintas ciudades del país más una repesca Estocolmo. En esa misma ciudad, se celebró la gran final. Los presentadores de las cuatro semifinales, así como de la gran final fueron Charlotte Nilsson, y . Coincidiendo con el 30º aniversario del triunfo de ABBA, este Melodifestivalen se celebró a lo grande, con un gran y sobre todo innovador escenario considerado como el mejor de los últimos años. 3.232 canciones fueron enviadas al Svenska Musikläggarföreningen, SMF, que seleccionó 700 temas, remitiéndolos a continuación a la Radio Televisión Sueca. El jurado especializado de dicha organización eligió 28 temas. Juntos a estos y como novedad, se invitaron a cuatro famosos compositores a contribuir con sus composiciones. Estos fueron Lasse Berghagen, E-Type, Thomas G:son y . Si bien las semifinales fueron algo flojas respecto a las de 2003, el que hubiera varios temas muy buenos y la mayoría consiguieran vencer en las semis o la repesca acabó en una de las mejores finales de Melodifestivalen recordadas. La final fue vista por 4.105.000 espectadores, la cifra más alta desde 2000, consiguiendo ser el programa más visto del año en Suecia. (es)
