- Max Mangold (* 8. Mai 1922 in Basel; † 3. Februar 2015 in Saarbrücken) war ein deutscher Phonetiker Schweizer Herkunft. Er war bereits früh an sprachlichen Fragen interessiert und erlernte viele Sprachen, so z. B. auch die von Ludwik Lejzer Zamenhof geschaffene Plansprache Esperanto. Er studierte in Basel, Genf, Paris und London. Danach arbeitete er u. a. als Dolmetscher der Vereinten Nationen an der Demarkationslinie zwischen Nord- und Südkorea. Habilitation 1956. Seit 1957 wirkte er an der Universität des Saarlandes. 1963 Ernennung zum außerplanmäßigen Professor, 1969 zum Akademischen Rat und ordentlichen Professor für Phonetik, Phonologie und allgemeine Sprachwissenschaft. Große Bekanntheit erlangte Mangold mit der Publikation diverser Aussprachewörterbücher. So war er beispielsweise für mehrere Auflagen des Aussprache-Duden bis zur 6. Auflage (2005) verantwortlich. Er betreute neben zahlreichen Dissertationen weitere Veröffentlichungen, so zum Beispiel über die Dialekte im Saarland und die Dialekte in Rheinland-Pfalz. Li estis dum preskaŭ tridek jaroj profesoro pri fonetiko kaj fonologio ĉe la Universitato de Sarlando en Saarbrücken kaj konatiĝis i.a. kiel aŭtoro de "Aussprache-Duden", la plej grava vortaro pri germana prononco. Li ne rekte aktivis en la Esperanto-movado, sed parolas la lingvon kaj publikigis - kiel renoma lingvisto - favoran opinion pri ĝi. Ekde 1968 Reinhard Haupenthal estis instrukomisiito pri esperantologio en lia universitata departemento. Ekde la komenco de la 1990-aj jaroj sendaĵoj pri didaktiko de la lingvo-lernado produktitaj de li kaj Günter Becker (poste anstataŭe Oliver Walz) apartenis al la regula radioprogramo de Publika Kanalo Saarbrücken. - Max Mangold (German pronunciation: [ˈmaks ˈmaŋɡɔlt]; 8 May 1922 – 3 February 2015) was a Swiss-German linguist and phonetician. He was born in the village of Pratteln near Basel, Switzerland and taught phonetics, phonology and linguistic theory at the University of the Saarland in Germany. He produced phonetic notation for numerous reference works and pronunciation dictionaries, among them the Duden dictionary of German pronunciation. His many contributions to German phonology are seminal and comprehensive. He also oversaw scientific theses, dissertations (nearly 100 of them, many the first and only records of endangered languages) and other publications, for example on dialects in the Saarland and the Rhineland-Palatinate. Mangold showed a strong interest in linguistic matters in his early years and learned many languages, including Esperanto, actively speaking nearly 40 languages in his prime. The foreign language that he spoke best was probably Italian. He studied in Basel, Geneva, Paris and London. His work afterward included service as an interpreter for the United Nations from 1953–1954 during the Korean War for French, German, English, Russian, Polish, Czech, Slovak, Swedish and Chinese. After receiving his doctorate under Walther von Wartburg and habilitation in Basel in 1956, he was appointed a full professor of phonetics at the University of the Saarland in Germany in 1957 after lecturing at universities in Basel, Zurich and Bonn. Già professore di fonetica, fonologia e linguistica teorica nell'università del Saarland, con sede a Saarbrücken (Germania), è noto soprattutto come fonetista e come poliglotto. Max Mangold (pronuncia tedesca /'maks 'maŋɡɔlt/) fu responsabile delle trascrizioni fonetiche (o fonematiche) di molti dizionari e altri repertori. In Italia, dette un contributo alla redazione del Dizionario d’ortografia e di pronunzia, fin dalle sue prime edizioni cartacee. Ma la sua opera più nota e prestigiosa è il dizionario di pronuncia della casa editrice Duden di Mannheim, uscito in sei edizioni dal 1962 al 2005. In esso il Mangold, oltre a descrivere la pronuncia tipo del tedesco (nella prima edizione, facendo riferimento alla , o “pronuncia della scena”, codificata da , nelle successive a un modello modernizzato), dà, con esattezza, sobrietà e chiarezza esemplari, la trascrizione della pronuncia di parole appartenenti a un alto numero di lingue anche esotiche (perlopiù non in una forma adattata al sistema fonetico tedesco, ma nella forma propria della lingua originale). Tra i suoi interessi linguistici furono anche l'esperanto, il latino e il sanscrito, i dialetti tedeschi (in particolare quelli del Saarland e della Renania-Palatinato), le lingue a rischio d'estinzione. Era inoltre appassionato di geografia e cartografia. Noto come poliglotta, il Mangold parlava scorrevolmente molte lingue. Interrogato (nel 1992) sul numero di quelle che parlava, egli rispose “quindici”, aggiungendo scherzosamente d'aver bisogno di qualche settimana per perfezionare la conoscenza d'altre quindici. Ma, oltre a queste almeno trenta lingue, il Mangold ne aveva studiate, per conoscerne la grammatica e in specie la pronuncia, molte altre. Coltivò con predilezione l'italiano. Nel 1953-1954, durante le trattative per l'armistizio che pose fine alla guerra di Corea, il Mangold lavorò, sul teatro dei combattimenti, come interprete per le Nazioni Unite. Dopo essersi addottorato con Walther von Wartburg, ottenne nel 1957 una cattedra a Saarbrücken, dove seguitò a insegnare per più di trent'anni. (it)
