- Ein mathematisches Rätsel ist ein auf mathematischen Sachverhalten basierendes Rätsel. Die mathematischen Sachverhalte stammen oftmals aus der Zahlentheorie oder der Geometrie. Ein berühmter Erfinder von solchen Rätseln war der Amerikaner Samuel Loyd (1841–1911), der ab 1870 seine Rätsel in zahlreichen Zeitungskolumnen und Zeitschriften veröffentlichte. Auch der Spielerfinder Martin Gardner (1914–2010) hat zahlreiche neue Mathematikrätsel erfunden und veröffentlicht. Meist werden solche Aufgaben in eine kleine Anekdote mit einer spannenden Überschrift verpackt, um sie nicht allzu mathematisch trocken erläutern zu müssen. Verschiedene Zeitschriften, darunter Die Zeit, veröffentlichen regelmäßig mathematische Rätsel zur Unterhaltung ihrer Leser. Ein neuer Typ mathematischer Rätsel sind Rätsel wie das Sudoku, die von der japanischen Zeitschrift Nikoli weltweit bekannt gemacht wurden. (de)
- A mathematical game is a game whose rules, strategies, and outcomes are defined by clear mathematical parameters. Often, such games have simple rules and match procedures, such as Tic-tac-toe and Dots and Boxes. Generally, mathematical games need not be conceptually intricate to involve deeper computational underpinnings. For example, even though the rules of Mancala are relatively basic, the game can be rigorously analyzed through the lens of combinatorial game theory. Mathematical games differ sharply from mathematical puzzles in that mathematical puzzles require specific mathematical expertise to complete, whereas mathematical games do not require a deep knowledge of mathematics to play. Often, the arithmetic core of mathematical games is not readily apparent to players untrained to note the statistical or mathematical aspects. Some mathematical games are of deep interest in the field of recreational mathematics. When studying a game's core mathematics, arithmetic theory is generally of higher utility than actively playing or observing the game itself. To analyze a game numerically, it is particularly useful to study the rules of the game insofar as they can yield equations or relevant formulas. - O jogo na educação matemática procura introduzir uma linguagem matemática não formal para os jogadores, que aos poucos incorporam conceitos matemáticos formais, ao desenvolver a capacidade de lidar com informações e ao criar significados culturais para os conceitos matemáticos e estudo de novos conteúdos. A matemática, dessa forma, busca no jogo a ludicidade das soluções, construindo conceitos para as situações-problema vividas no dia-a-dia.(CABRAL, 2006) Dessa forma o jogo se torna um recurso didático disponível e atraente ao ensino da Matemática, porque proporcionam aos alunos resolver problemas de maneira divertida, criando situações de erros e acertos que levam ao aluno a desenvolver sua autonomia. Assim, os professores esperam que os jogos possam tornar suas aulas mais fascinantes e o processo de aprendizagem mais significativo. Compreende-se que o caráter lúdico dos jogos matemáticos estimula o raciocínio, simulando conflitos, muitas vezes direcionados ou relacionados com seu dia-a-dia, confirmando a importância da formação matemática, não apenas como detentora do pensamento dedutivo, mas também como disciplina formadora de valores e atitudes. Os jogos propiciam o aprimoramento das habilidades matemáticas, mas ao mesmo tempo ajudam a desenvolver a concentração, a solidariedade, autoconfiança, autoestima e a criticidade. (pt)
