- Māori All Blacks (bis 2012: New Zealand Māori) ist eine neuseeländische Rugby-Union-Mannschaft, die traditionellerweise gegen Nationalmannschaften spielt, die in Neuseeland zu Besuch sind. Im Ausland nahm die Mannschaft bis 2007 nur am Churchill Cup teil, um nicht mit der eigenen Nationalmannschaft (den All Blacks) zu konkurrieren. Dieses Turnier konnten die New Zealand Māori bisher zweimal gewinnen (2004, 2006). Seit 2008 nehmen die NZ Māori nicht mehr am Churchill Cup teil, da sie die Junior All blacks im Pacific Nations Cup ersetzten, den sie dann auch sofort bei der ersten Teilnahme gewannen. Um in die Mannschaft aufgenommen zu werden, muss ein Spieler zu mindestens 1/16 māorischer Abstammung sein, d. h. mindestens ein Ururgroßelternteil muss nachweislich ein Māori gewesen sein. In der Vergangenheit ist diese Regel nicht immer strikt angewendet worden, denn es wurden auch Spieler aufgenommen, die aufgrund der Apartheid-Bestimmungen in Südafrika nicht für die Nationalmannschaft spielen durften. - The Māori All Blacks, previously called the New Zealand Maori, New Zealand Maoris and New Zealand Natives, are a rugby union team from New Zealand. They are a representative team of the New Zealand Rugby Union, and a prerequisite for playing is that the player has Māori whakapapa (genealogy). In the past this rule was not strictly applied; non–Māori players who looked Māori were often selected in the team. These included a few Pacific island players and a couple of African descent. Today all players have their ancestry verified before selection in the team. The team's first match was in 1888 against Hawke's Bay. This was followed by a tour of Europe in 1888 and 1889 where the team played their first games against national teams, beating Ireland in Dublin before losing to Wales and England. Their early uniforms consisted of a black jersey with a silver fern and white knickerbockers. The New Zealand Māori perform a haka—a Māori challenge or posture dance—before each match. The haka was later adopted by the New Zealand national team, the All Blacks, as were their black shirts. In 2001, the Māori first performed the "Timatanga" haka, which describes the evolution of life and the creation of New Zealand from the four winds. Since being given official status in 1910, the New Zealand Māori have selected some of rugby union's great players, including fullback George Nēpia who played 46 games for New Zealand from 1924 to 1930, halfback Sid Going who played 86 matches for his country and former New Zealand captain Tane Norton, who represented New Zealand in 61 games, including 27 tests, and later became president of the New Zealand Rugby Union. Gestita da New Zealand Rugby, origina dalla selezione dei Natives che viaggiò per il mondo in un famoso tour nel 1888-89.Adotta una maglia nera, simile a quella degli All Blacks. Prima di ogni partita, dal 2001, i giocatori eseguono una danza, l'Haka Timatanga, differente da quella eseguita dagli All Blacks, . Per alcuni anni, alla normale attività (tournée ed incontri con squadre in visita della Nuova Zelanda) ha affiancato la partecipazione alla Churchill Cup. Nel 2008 prese il posto degli Junior All Blacks nella Pacific Nations Cup. (it)
