- Higurashi When They Cry is a Japanese anime television series based on Ryukishi07's visual novel series. The English titles for the first season are accorded to the titles used by Funimation. English titles in the other seasons are not official. The first season titled Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (ひぐらしのなく頃に). It was animated by Studio Deen, and produced by Frontier Works, Geneon Entertainment and Sotsu. The series was directed by Chiaki Kon, with Toshifumi Kawase handling series composition, Kyūta Sakai designing the characters and Kenji Kawai composing the music. It was released in English by Geneon and Funimation, under the title When They Cry – Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. The first season contains 26 episodes and aired from April 4 to September 26, 2006 on a number of television networks, including Chiba TV, Kansai TV and Tokai TV. The story follows five friends solving the case about unexplained murders occurred for three years in the village. The series is divided into six chapters which are based on the first six chapters in the original visual novel series. The first chapter is Onikakushi-hen (episodes 1 to 4), followed by Watanagashi-hen (episodes 5 to 8), and Tatarigoroshi-hen (episodes 9 to 13). Next is Himatsubushi-hen (episodes 14 and 15), the shortest of the story arcs. The last two chapters are Meakashi-hen (episodes 16 to 21) and Tsumihoroboshi-hen (episodes 22 through 26). An extra episode based on a short story written by Ryukishi07, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Gaiden Nekogoroshi-hen (ひぐらしのなく頃に外伝 猫殺し編, lit. When The Cicadas Cry Side Story: Cat Killing Chapter), was released in Japan for the first season on July 27, 2007 as a bonus for purchasing all nine anime DVD volumes. The OVA includes opening and ending animations from the first season, but features Sakai's updated character designs from the second season. The second season is titled When They Cry: Kai (ひぐらしのなく頃に解, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai, lit. When The Cicadas Cry: Solution). It was produced by the same team and contains 24 episodes. The series aired in Japan between July 6 and December 17, 2007 on several television networks, such as Sun Television, TV Kanagawa and TV Saitama. The story continues what is left unexplained in the first season over the course of three separate story arcs. The first story is an anime-original arc called Yakusamashi-hen, which is followed by the last two arcs from the original visual novel series: Minagoroshi-hen and Matsuribayashi-hen. On September 18, 2007, a sixteen-year-old girl killed her father with an axe in Kyoto, Japan. The similarities between Kai and the incident were too strong. In response, Tokai TV replaced episode twelve on September 21, 2007 with a cooking show. A five-episode original video animation (OVA) series, titled When They Cry: Rei (ひぐらしのなく頃に礼, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei, lit. When The Cicadas Cry: Gratitude), was released from February 25 to August 21, 2009. Kawase takes over Kon's role as director, while Kazuya Kuroda takes over Sakai's role as character designer. It has two arcs taken from the fan disc of the same name and another arc adapted from a light novel released with the PlayStation version. Another four-episode OVA series to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Higurashi franchise, titled Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kira (ひぐらしのなく頃に煌, lit. When The Cicadas Cry: Glitter), was released from July 21, 2011 to January 25, 2012. Tomoyuki Abe took over Kuroda's role as character designer. The OVA film Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kaku: Outbreak (ひぐらしのなく頃に拡〜アウトブレイク〜, lit. When The Cicadas Cry: Expansion ~Outbreak~) was adapted from the short story "Higurashi Outbreak", and was released on August 15, 2013. Sakai, who served as character designer for the first two seasons, returns for this OVA. A new anime series, titled Higurashi: When They Cry – Gou (ひぐらしのなく頃に業, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Gō, lit. When The Cicadas Cry: Karma), is animated by Passione and directed by Keiichiro Kawaguchi, with Takashi Ikehata serving as assistant director, Naoki Hayashi handling series composition, Akio Watanabe designing the characters and Kawai returning as music composer. The main cast will reprise their roles. The series was set premiere in July 2020, but was delayed to October 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It aired from October 1, 2020 to March 19, 2021. Funimation acquired the series and was streamed on the website in North America and the British Isles, and on AnimeLab in Australia and New Zealand. In Southeast Asia and South Asia, Medialink has acquired the series and is streaming the series on its YouTube channel Ani-One. The series ran for 24 episodes. The second season, Higurashi: When They Cry – Sotsu (ひぐらしのなく頃に卒, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Sotsu, lit. When the Cicadas Cry: (Finishing, Graduation or Death)), aired from July 1 to September 30, 2021 with 15 episodes. (en)
- 《쓰르라미 울 적에》(일본어: ひぐらしのなく頃に, ひぐらしのなくころに→저녁매미 울 적에)는 동인 서클 07th Expansion이 제작한 동인 게임 《쓰르라미 울 적에》를 원작으로 한 텔레비전 애니메이션을 말한다. 2007년 7월부터 애니메이션 2기가 방영되고 있었으나, 비슷한 시기에 발생한 살인 사건의 영향으로 일부 방송사의 방영이 중지되었다. 하지만 대부분의 방송사는 날짜를 변경하여 방송을 계속 하였다. 1기와 2기의 첫 화와 마지막 화 제목은 항상 카타카나 4자로 되어 있다. 원작의 팬디스크를 원작으로 한 OVA인 《쓰르라미 울 적에 례》가 2009년에 발매되었으며, 10주년 기념 OVA인 《쓰르라미 울 적에 황》이 2011년과 2012년을 걸쳐 발매되었다. 신작 《쓰르라미 울 적에 업》이 발표되고 있으며, 2020년 10월부터 2021년 3월까지 방송되었으며, 《쓰르라미 울 적에 졸》은 2021년 7월부터 9월까지 방송되었다. - La prima serie dell'anime, prodotta dallo Studio Deen e diretta da Chiaki Kon, copre i quattro question arc e i primi due answer arc. Composta da ventisei episodi ed intitolata Higurashi no naku koro ni, è stata trasmessa in Giappone tra il 4 aprile e il 26 settembre 2006. La maggior parte dei personaggi è stata doppiata dagli stessi seiyū incaricati per i Drama-CD. La serie è stata resa disponibile in DVD in Giappone, Francia e America del Nord (in questi ultimi due paesi sotto autorizzazione della Geneon Entertainment). Tuttavia nel settembre 2007, la divisione degli Stati Uniti d'America di Geneon ha annunciato che avrebbe interrotto tutti i progetti anime in corso, incluso Higurashi, dal 6 novembre 2007. Dal titolo When They Cry: Higurashi, sono stati dunque pubblicati solo tre, dei pianificati sei, DVD di Higurashi. Il 3 luglio 2008 Geneon e Funimation Entertainment hanno annunciato un accordo per distribuire alcuni titoli nell'America del Nord. Mentre Geneon ha conservato ancora la licenza, Funimation ha assunto dei diritti esclusivi per produrre, introdurre sul mercato, vendere e distribuire tali titoli, tra i quali anche Higurashi. Funimation ha pubblicato un box set completo della serie nell'agosto 2009. Tuttavia nell'agosto 2011 i diritti sono stati fatti scadere a causa delle scarse vendite. In Italia la serie è stata pubblicata in versione sottotitolata su Netflix il 31 luglio 2019 con il titolo statunitense When They Cry. I giapponesi, che hanno comprato tutti i nove DVD della prima stagione, hanno avuto la possibilità di ricevere uno speciale DVD anime intitolato Higurashi no naku koro ni Gaiden Nekogoroshi-hen, basato sulla breve storia che era stata data a coloro che avevano comprato il manga. Nonostante fosse un bonus per la prima stagione (e avesse le stesse sigle d'apertura e chiusura di quest'ultima), Nekogoroshi-hen è stato caratterizzato dall'aggiornato stile di animazione visto nella seconda serie. Un seguito della serie, composto da ventiquattro episodi e basato sul nuovo arco narrativo e sui due originali answer arc finali, è stato trasmesso in Giappone con il titolo Higurashi no naku koro ni kai tra il 6 luglio e il 17 dicembre 2007 ed è stato caratterizzato da un nuovo character design. A causa di un omicidio effettuato con la stessa arma utilizzata dal personaggio Rena, la trasmissione è stata interrotta da diverse stazioni televisive giapponesi. Tuttavia in seguito il programma è stato ripreso normalmente con le immagini nella sigla iniziale censurate. Una serie OAV di cinque episodi, intitolata Higurashi no naku koro ni rei e diretta da Toshifumi Kawase, è stata pubblicata dal 25 febbraio 2009. La trasmissione della serie OAV è iniziata in esclusiva nel Bandai Channel prima della pubblicazione del DVD. L'OAV contiene tre archi narrativi: Hajisarashi-hen, in un episodio, Saikoroshi-hen, in tre episodi, e Hirukowashi-hen, nell'ultimo episodio. Hajisarashi-hen era originariamente una light novel inclusa nell'edizione limitata del gioco per PlayStation 2 Higurashi no naku koro ni matsuri, e ha preso il posto di Batsukoishi-hen. Frontier Works ha annunciato un'altra serie OAV, dal titolo Higurashi no naku koro ni kira, nel marzo 2011, che celebra il decimo anniversario di Higurashi no naku koro ni. Il 6 gennaio 2020 viene annunciata una nuova serie televisiva anime, prodotta dallo studio Passione. Il 20 marzo dello stesso anno viene confermata la trasmissione della serie a partire da luglio. Il 21 maggio successivo viene però comunicato che la serie è stata posticipata da luglio a data da destinarsi. Il 20 agosto viene confermato che la serie, intitolata Higurashi no naku koro ni gou, sarebbe stata trasmessa divisa in due blocchi di episodi, il primo dal 1º ottobre 2020 mentre il secondo dal 7 gennaio 2021. In Italia la serie è stata trasmessa in simulcast dalla web TV VVVVID. Il 18 marzo 2021 l'account Twitter ufficiale annunciò che la serie uscita nel 2020 avrebbe ricevuto un sequel intitolato Higurashi no naku koro ni sotsu, il quale è stato trasmesso dal 1º luglio al 30 settembre 2021. - When They Cry (jap. ひぐらしのなく頃に Higurashi no naku koro ni) – anime wyprodukowane przez studio Deen i wyreżyserowane przez Chiakiego Konę. Łącznie wyprodukowano dwie serie anime oraz kilkanaście odcinków OVA. Fabuła skupia się na grupie przyjaciół mieszkających w niewielkiej wiosce Hinamizawa i serii niepokojących wydarzeń, które kulminują się w miarę zbliżania się dnia festiwalu Watanagashi. Pierwsza seria nosi nazwę Higurashi no naku koro ni (jap. ひぐらしのなく頃に) i składa się z 26 odcinków. Seria podzielona została na sześć rozdziałów, które zostały napisane na podstawie pierwszych sześciu rozdziałów powieści wizualnej. W 2007 roku premierę miała druga seria, zatytułowana Higurashi no naku koro ni kai (jap. ひぐらしのなく頃に解) i składa się z trzech rozdziałów, w tym pierwszy z nich stanowi oryginalną opowieść, dwa pozostałe są ekranizacją dwóch ostatnich rozdziałów powieści wizualnej. Zostają w nich wyjaśnione nierozwiązane wątki i pojawiają się odpowiedzi na pytania, które zostały postawione w poprzednim sezonie. W 2009 roku wydano serię OVA pod tytułem Higurashi no naku koro ni rei (jap. ひぐらしのなく頃に礼), a w latach 2011-2012 kolejną, zatytułowaną Higurashi no naku koro ni kira (jap. ひぐらしのなく頃に煌). Wydano także odcinek Higurashi no naku koro ni gaiden Nekogoroshi-hen (jap. ひぐらしのなく頃に 外伝 猫殺し編), który dołączony został do wydania pierwszej serii na DVD. Dodatkowo w sierpniu 2013 roku wydano 52-minutową OVA Higurashi no naku koro ni kaku 〜Outbreak〜 (jap. ひぐらしのなく頃に拡 〜アウトブレイク〜 Higurashi no naku koro ni kaku ～Autobureiku～), wyprodukowaną na podstawie opowiadania napisanego przez Ryukishi07. W Polsce pierwszy sezon anime został udostępniony za pośrednictwem platformy Netflix od 1 sierpnia 2019 roku. (pl)
