- Kerry Minnear (* 2. Januar 1948 in Salisbury, England) ist ein britischer Musiker. Nach seinem Musikstudium stieß Minnear 1970 als Keyboarder zu der Progressive-Rock-Gruppe Gentle Giant und war dort bis 1980 eine treibende kompositorische Kraft.Gerade die klassisch angehauchten Passagen der Musik stammten häufig aus seiner Feder und gaben der Band ihren unverwechselbaren Stil. Darüber hinaus sang Minnear neben Derek Shulman viele Stücke der Band und war sowohl für virtuoses Keyboardspiel als auch außergewöhnliche Vibraphon-Soli bekannt. Zudem spielte er unter anderem Cello, Xylophon, Blockflöte, Gitarre, Bass und Schlagzeug. Heute lebt Kerry Minnear zusammen mit seiner Frau Leslie in den Midlands in England. Die beiden führen das Label , das die Interessen von Gentle Giant vertritt. Er arbeitet auch an Solo-Projekten und Computerspiel-Musik. Minnear hat einen Sohn und zwei Töchter. (de)
- Kerry Churchill Minnear (born 2 January 1948 in the town of Shaftesbury in Dorset, England) is a multi-instrumentalist musician known primarily for his work with the progressive rock band Gentle Giant from 1970 to 1980. He graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in London with a major in musical composition. As a member of Gentle Giant, he contributed to all 11 albums over the 10 year life of the band. Though he is adept at several instruments, he primarily played keyboards and provided back up and lead vocals. In addition to keyboard, he also played a multitude of other instruments such as the cello, tenor recorder, and classical percussion (including vibraphone, marimba, xylophone, timpani and snare drum). He also composed the original musical soundtrack for the video game Azrael's Tear in 1996, starring Ray Shulman. He now lives in Solihull (West Midlands) with his wife Lesley and has three children, Sally, Sam and Susie. He also composes for cinema and television. In the years following the dissolution of Gentle Giant, Minnear was a member of a Christian music band, The Reapers, in the 1980s. He was also a teacher and church organist. He and his wife Lesley own Alucard Music, which releases Gentle Giant CDs and DVDs. He also plays occasionally with the group Three Friends which reproduces Gentle Giant songs in concerts. Three Friends is composed of: Mick Wilson singing lead vocals, Gary Green and Andrew Williams on guitar, Roger Carey on bass, Kerry Minnear and John Donaldson on piano and keyboards, and Malcolm Mortimore on drums. Minnear, Green and Mortimore have all been members of Gentle Giant, with Minnear and Green serving continuously and Mortimore solely on the album Three Friends. His son Sam Minnear is a founding member of alternative pop group Misty's Big Adventure. (en)

Tout comme les autres membres du groupe, Kerry est agile sur plusieurs instruments. Il assurera donc toutes les performances aux claviers (orgue, clavinet, synthétiseur, piano, etc.) qu'il réussit brillamment et avec transparence à intégrer dans des contextes acoustiques. Il maniait ainsi une multitude d'autres instruments tels que le violoncelle, les percussions classiques (notamment vibraphone, marimba, xylophone, timbales et caisse claire). Lors de concerts, ses solos de vibraphone prenaient souvent la forme de longues et prenantes improvisations. Dans les albums studio, Kerry Minnear et Derek Shulman s'échangeaient régulièrement le rôle de leader au sein du groupe. On peut donc aussi bien les retrouver en alternance dans une même pièce autant que plusieurs pièces sont entièrement chantées par Kerry. Cependant, sa voix d'une extrême douceur, se perdant souvent dans les aigus, caractéristique des chansons les plus calmes du groupe, était d'un volume trop faible pour l'amplification de l'époque. Ses parties solistes étaient donc chantées soit par Derek ou Phil Shulman, lorsque ce dernier était dans le groupe, lors des performances en concert, Minnear n'assurant alors que les chœurs. Kerry a également composé la bande sonore musicale originale du jeu vidéo Azrael's Tear en 1996, avec Ray Shulman. Il vit maintenant à Solihull (West Midlands) avec sa femme Lesley et a trois enfants, Sally, Sam et Susie. Toujours membre de la franchise Gentle Giant, il compose également pour le cinéma et la télévision. Dans les années qui ont suivi la dissolution de Gentle Giant, Minnear a été membre d'un groupe de musique chrétienne, The Reapers, dans les années 1980.
