- James Rendel Harris, auch J. Rendel Harris oder nur Rendel Harris, (* 27. Januar 1852 in Plymouth, Devon; † 1. März 1941 in Birmingham) war ein britischer Bibelwissenschaftler und Kurator der Handschriften der John Rylands Library, Manchester, der sich besonders der Erforschung der syrischen Handschriften widmete. Seine Verbindungen zum Katharinenkloster auf dem Berg Sinai ermöglichten Agnes Smith Lewis und ihrer Schwester Margaret Dunlop Gibson die Entdeckung der Altsyrischen NT-Übersetzung. Er war Quäker. - James Rendel Harris (Plymouth, Devon, 27 January 1852 – 1 March 1941) was an English biblical scholar and curator of manuscripts, who was instrumental in bringing back to light many Syriac Scriptures and other early documents. His contacts at the Saint Catherine's Monastery on Mount Sinai in Egypt enabled twin sisters Agnes Smith Lewis and Margaret Dunlop Gibson to discover there the Sinaitic Palimpsest, the oldest Syriac New Testament document in existence. He subsequently accompanied them on a second trip, with Robert Bensly and Francis Crawford Burkitt, to decipher the palimpsest. He himself discovered there other manuscripts (073, 0118, 0119, 0137, a Syriac text of the Apology of Aristides etc.,). Harris's Biblical Fragments from Mount Sinai appeared in 1890. He was a Quaker. Il a fait connaître de nombreux écrits syriaques et d'autres documents anciens. Ses contacts au monastère Sainte-Catherine du Sinaï ont facilité l'accès au plus ancien manuscrit connu du Nouveau Testament en syriaque : le Codex Sinaiticus Syriacus découvert par Agnes et Margaret Smith en 1892. Il a découvert en particulier les manuscrits connus aujourd'hui sous les références Onciale 073, 0118, 0119, 0137, et un texte syriaque de l'apologie d'Aristide.
