Původně byl otevřen v roce 1978, kdy se areál stal dějištěm každoročně hraného závěrečného grandslamu sezóny US Open. Kapacita byla po znovuotevření v roce 2016 navýšena o dva tisíce návštěvníků na 8 125 sedících diváků. Po Arthur Ashe Stadium a Louis Armstrong Stadium představuje třetí největší dvorec areálu. The stadium which has a capacity to seat 8,125 people, is owned by the United States Tennis Association. The court is the third largest at the national tennis center, after the Arthur Ashe and Louis Armstrong Stadiums. Built to host the US Open, Grandstand was constructed as part of a redesign of the national tennis center and is the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design tennis stadium in the world. The stadium designed by Rossetti Architects and constructed by AECOM is named after a 1978 stadium of the same name. (en)

Obiekt został otwarty 29 sierpnia 2016 meczem pierwszej rundy US Open 2016 między Caroline Wozniacki i Taylor Townsend. Potocznie nazywany jest New Grandstand z racji, że zastąpił tzw. Old Grandstand. New Grandstand jest ulokowany w południowo-zachodniej części kompleksu USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis obok kortów 8, 9, 10 i zbudowany jest z paneli przeciwsłonecznych, co dodaje mu uroku architektonicznego, a wyglądem przypomina statek kosmiczny. Pojemność nowej konstrukcji zwiększyła się do 8 125 miejsc z poprzednich 5 800 co czyni ją trzecią pod względem liczby siedzeń w kampusie areną po Arthur Ashe Stadium i Louis Armstrong Stadium. Stary stadion po zakończeniu edycji turnieju 2016 został rozebrany. Inwestycja była częścią kilkuletniego procesu przebudowy USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, której łączny koszt szacowany jest na 600 mln dolarów amerykańskich. (pl)
